naner12 @naner12 exactly my point. the truth is, Roc Nation will be backed by HBO, no doubt. Jay z's relationship with HBO is legit. Quillin would have to fight on HBO and Al won't allow that. And why would he be worthless just cuz he doesn't have a title. He can decide and say fuck it, let me move up in weight, or fight Curtis Stevens vs that other fucker once that fight is done and get a title. Im not a fan of his by any means but realistically speaking doing this is fucking over Roc Nations debut as a boxing promotional company.
It's honestly not fucking anything up for roc nation is my point. Most of the contracts to secure a venue have wording in it in case something falls through so they aren't tied to holding a show that day. I know you've seen entire cards scrapped when the main event falls through. This only hurts 2 sets of people and roc nation ain't one of them.

So what would be Roc's next big move if Quillin fight doesn't happen? This was a surprise by everyone, but next time what would happen?
Title holders go to purse bids all the time. I'd bet any amount of money that losing Quillin Vs. Korobov isn't going to ruin or have any real impact in any way. Quillin will not be getting those kind of pay days regularly, he's not that guy, if he doesn't sign it completely fucks him over.

Stevens Vs. N'Jikam is an eliminator for the IBF title. Winner of that gets the winner of Soliman Vs. Taylor, I doubt either of those guys would pass up a title fight against what would be the weakest belt holder in the division to take what would be a fight with a titleless Quillin.

I'll wait to see if Quillin doesn't sign to keep arguing this, but it would legit make him a complete idiot if he passes up that payday. No way around it.

Injuries are not thought to be critical but the first defence of his world title which he won against Shawn Porter may now be in doubt. All will depend on the severity of the injuries.

The incident just comes a month after former British light middleweight champion, and now trainer, Jamie Moore was shot in Marbella.

Peter Quillin Vacates WBO Title, Roc Nation Comments

LOS ANGELES - Middleweight star Peter Quillin announced today that he is vacating his WBO middleweight title, effective immediately, in order to pursue bigger opportunities at 160 pounds.

"I'd like to thank WBO president Paco Valcarcel and his organization for their support throughout the years," said Quillin. "Winning the WBO world championship was a highlight in my career and something I'll never forget, this is a difficult decision, but in order to make the fights the fans and I want against my fellow middleweights at the top of the division, I needed to relinquish the title. This is an exciting new chapter in my life, and I'm looking forward to cementing my spot as the best middleweight in the world."

Brooklyn, New York's Quillin (31-0, 22 KOs) won the WBO middleweight title on October 20, 2012 with a 12-round decision victory over Hassan N'Dam. The 31-year-old went on to successfully defend his title three times with victories over Fernando Guerrero, Gabriel Rosado, and Lukas Konecny, establishing himself as an elite middleweight champion. Now, Quillin will seek even bigger challenges in the near future.

Roc Nation, a new promotional player,*laid down $1.9 million dollars to secure the promotional rights to Quillin vs. mandatory challenger Matt Korobov. There were rumors for weeks that Quilling was being steered to a title showdown with WBA 'regular' champion Danny Jacobs. Bother Quillin and Jacobs are managed by Al Haymon.

In a statement provide to BoxingScene, Roc Nation reacted to the news.

“Roc Nation Sports wishes Peter Quillin good luck.* I'm sure he has a bigger pay day to have given up his title and 1.4 Million. We will move on to the next fight to promote” – Michael R. Yormark, Roc Nation, President & Chief of Branding and Strategy.

Mayweather once again states only way he fights Pacquiao is if Pacquiao signs to TMT. Pac responds by saying Floyd is ducking him.

By Vittorio Hernandez | September 4, 2014 2:11 PM EST

Despite the disclosure last week by Top Rank Promotions chief Bob Arum that Showtime/CBS and HBO are discussing the possibility of having two Manny Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather bouts in 2015, Money May doused cold water on the fight.

h a right during their title fight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada April 12, 2014

Read: Boxing News 2014: 12 Days to Mayweather-Maidana Rematch

He told Black Sports Online writer Kel Dansby at a media event at his Las Vegas gym that he would only agree to face the Filipino champ in the ring if the congressman will sign with his Mayweather Promotions.

With Mayweather's condition, the dream match is next to dead because Pacquiao;s contract with Top Rank runs until December 2016, which means the earliest time the bout could take place is January 2017 when Mayweather turns 40 and Pacquao would be 38 by then.

In response to Mayweather's latest demand, Pacquiao replied, quoted by the Los Angeles Times, "I want to give the people what they want, the fight with Mayweathere, but what can I do if he doesn't want to fight?"

Pacquiao added, "He's ducking another opponent, and it's known all over the world who he should fight. So ... I feel sorry for him. What he needs is ... to know how to communicate with people. That's why I'm so happy and have peace of mind."

For the fight to happen before the two boxers get too old, Arum said there should be cooperation between HBO, Pacquiao's pay-per-view network, and Showtime, where Mayweather is signed up.

Peter Quillin is a bitch. He lost a lot of fans today, including me. Nothing more shameful then being stripped of your belt for what would have been a career high payday (three times the amount! ). And for what? Because it doesn't fit into Al Haymon's plan? Peter gonna realize when his next fight is way less than $1.4m he done fucked up.

Quillin must think he's more than what he actually is. There's no other fight that's going to pay him that amount that he'll take, what an absolute clown.

LMAO @ that. What a fucking idiot. I'm sure he'll get the Danny Jacobs mega fight for a 1/4th of that paycheck very soon. The trip part about the whole thing is Korobov is absolutely beatable.

Kell Brook’s stab wound leaves doubts whether he’ll be healed by December 6th

kell brook By Scott Gilfoid: IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (33-0, 22 KOs) was reportedly stabbed in the leg and cut on the arm while taking a holiday in Tenerife. The injury isn’t life threatening, but it is something that could potentially spoil Brook’s plans for his tune-up fight on December 6th in Sheffield, UK. Brook, 28, was said to have lost quite a bit of blood from the stab wound, which occurred at 6:00 a.m. What precisely Brook was doing at 6 am is unclear.

The injury certainly makes things a little more complicated for Brook and his promoter Eddie Hearn, because we’re talking about a certain amount of time needed for Brook’s wounds to heal. And by the time the injuries do heal, Brook isn’t going to have a lot of time to train for his fight.

We’re already three months away from December 6th, and even under the best of circumstances, Brook is likely going to need to rush through his training to try and get in shape. The bad thing is he’s probably not going to be able to start doing any road work with a stab wound in his leg right now.

If Hearn wants to still go through with the December 6th fight, he might choose an especially soft opponent for Brook to fight in order to make sure that he gets the win and looks good. He didn’t look good in his last fight against Shawn Porter, that’s for sure.

Hearn wanted Brook to fight a well-known opponent that American boxing fans have heard of, such as Josesito Lopez, Andre Berto or Brandon Rios. He didn’t seem excited about putting Brook in with Keith Thurman or Devon Alexander for a variety of reasons. Hearn wants Brook’s December 6th fight to be a showcase type affair, and he obviously couldn’t put him in a showcase if he’s going to get possibly beaten by those two fighters.

Thurman was ringside for the Brook-Porter fight, and he reportedly scored it a draw. He didn’t see Brook as having done enough to deserve the victory. Thurman said he’d like to fight Brook and take his unbeaten record from him. Thurman is going to have a hard time giving Brook his first defeat if Hearn isn’t going to let him fight Brook.

Hearn wants to have Brook look good in his December 6th fight so that he can setup a summer clash between Brook and Amir Khan at Wembley Stadium. Hearn says he’s in the process of negotiating a fight between them.

It might be better off for Hearn to let Brook sit for the remainder of 2014 so that he can lick his wounds and wait for them to heal so that he can get the Khan cash out fight. If Hearn’s idea is to put Brook in with Josesito Lopez or Berto in order to get the attention of the American boxing public, I see that as a poor plan, because Berto and Lopez are no longer relevant fighters at 147.

If Hearn wants to get a guy that he can showcase Brook against, he needs to get someone like Alexander or Luis Collazo. Hearn might also want to pull Brook to the side and tell him not to hold so much this time, because his last fight against Porter was nearly unwatchable due to the constant holding that Brook did.

Groves talking third fight with Froch if he beats Rebrasse and Dirrell

george groves carl froch anthony dirrell By Scott Gilfoid: Former two time world title challenger George Groves (19-2, 15 KOs) is thinking way ahead of his WBC super middleweight title eliminator fight against Christopher Rebrasse on September 20th and Groves’ subsequent title shot against WBC champion Anthony Dirrell towards a third fight against IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch in 2015.

Groves says he thinks he could beat Froch on the third try. Personally speaking, I’m not sure why a third fight would be any different than the other two times Groves fought Froch. If he couldn’t beat him in those fights, then I’m pretty sure he won’t be able to beat Froch in a third fight.

Whether Groves will ever get in the position for a third fight with Froch is doubtful because he’ll need to face the hard hitting Dirrell, who hits about as hard as Froch does but with much more speed. Groves was knocked out by a shot he didn’t see from the slow-punching Froch last May. Just imagine what’ll happen with the much faster Dirrell starts nailing Groves with shots.

“They’re talking about us fighting again next year so if I go about my business how we set out and win this WBC title and he decides he wants to box on,” Groves said to Skysports.com. “I’d love to have another crack. I’ve lost two out of two so far but I still think I can beat him.”

Ignoring the fact that Groves is going to have incredibly problems trying to get past Anthony Dirrell, I’m not sure that Froch’s promoter Eddie Hearn can sell a third fight between Groves and Froch.

Even if Groves were to beat Rebrasse and Dirrell, how many boxing fans in the UK would want to sit through a third fight between Froch and Groves? Sure, they might be mildly interested in watching the fight if were shown free and they had nothing else going on that particular Saturday night, but to actually have to pay to see a fight where you know what the outcome will be, I don’t see boxing fans wanting to see a third fight. That’s even worse than the Froch vs. Mikkel Kessler fight that Hearn brings up every now and then.

I don’t know how Hearn could talk about a third fight between Kessler and Froch when Kessler hasn’t fought since getting beaten by Froch last year in May. I mean, I could understand Hearn being excited about a Froch-Kessler third fight if Kessler had stayed busy and had picked up some fine scalps to add to his collection, but that’s not what he’s been doing. He’s just sitting and waiting for a rematch, and I can’t believe Hearn would actually put third Froch-Kessler fight together under those conditions. You wouldn’t see top fighters like Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr picking out a guy that’s been sitting ever since he got beaten over a year ago. It’ll actually be over 2 years of inactivity for Kesssler when/if Froch fights him in 2015.

I’ve seen a couple of Rebrasse’s fights in the past, and yeah, I can see Groves this guy. Rebrasse is slow, easy to hit and not a big puncher. In other words, he’s perfect for Groves to pick up an easy win against.

The WBC has Rebrasse ranked highly for some reason and I can’t see why when looking at him fight. I see him as bottom 50 caliber fighter, and definitely not No.2, which I where the WBC has him ranked now. But once Groves gets past Rebrasse, he’s going to likely be in for a world of hurt when he faces Dirrell. All the hand speed and power that Dirrell has, and his willingness to slug with his opponents early. It’s going to be really rough on Groves.
