"History of MoCheez Magazine"
MoCheez Magazine was first published 11 years ago in the summer of 1998. An up and coming rapper named Tech N9ne was featured on the cover of the Premiere issue of MoCheez. Four other issues of MoCheez were also published that featured on the cover, DJ Fresh, Eddie Griffin, Vell Bakardy, Court Dog & Cisco, Rich the Factor, and finally Nelly.
The mission of MoCheez magazine was to give regional exposure to Independent Hip-Hop artists from the MidWest. Most of the print media at the time catered to East or West coast artists, MoCheez was created to cater to MidWest music. Kansas City was the launch city, however it was also distributed in St. Louis, and was going to eventually cater to the Chicago market.
The last issue came out in 2001 (8 years ago). Murder Dog Magazine did a special feature on Kansas City, that was coordinated by MoCheez mag and at the same time Nelly unexpectedly and surprisingly went platinum. Those events led to a working partnership between MoCheez mag and Murder Dog mag and Nelly's first National Magazine cover was with Murder Dog, after he was featured on MoCheez.
MoCheez ceased publishing after that, and began a music label venture that produced compilations and solo albums. The most successful being the Murder Dog Presents KC compilation (which featured "Kansas City King" by T9) and the introduction of two up and coming artists Young Kev and WesCrook.
Now it's 2009 and after an 8 year hiatus MoCheez magazine is poised to reestablish itself as a bridge for up and coming artists to the mainstream public. With all the advantages of the internet technology that wasn't available, MoCheez will launch from the world wide web, before it returns to being the "Hip-Hop source for the MidWest underground".
