FIRST QUESTION,
PROBABLY BAK IN THE EASTCOAST, THUS YOUR BAKPAK ERA. THE WEST WAS ALWAYS LEFT OUT.

XND QUESTION,
I DON'T COMPREHEND YOUR QUESTION. YOU ASSIMILATIN' A gANgSTA TO A PIECE OF SHIT AND A gIMMIK. BUT TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION FROM WHAT I UNDA-STAND OF IT, THERE'S PROBABLY MORE WANNA-BE'S FROM DIFFERENT RACES AND CULTURAL BAKgROUNDS DUE TO THE MAINSTREAM ACCEPTANCE OF IT.

Im not comparing real gangstas to a gimmick. Kids see fake thugs on tv and emulate that shit, wanting to be like thier favorite rapper. I wonder if this has a negative impact on crime, kids acting out what thier favorite rapper talks about. Whereas in the political hip hop era kids were wearing red black and green and talking about being pro-black, this must of had some effect oon violence back then.

I think the west had its share of political messaged rappers back in the day. Ice Cube, Ice T and Paris in the late 80's/early 90's always had a message, and cats like MC Ren and Kam held it down in the mid 90's.

^^ One of the main reasons I'm a proponent of Swahili. If you can pull it off right, you could be purely rapping about Political topics. But if the beats were there, everyone would dance to it and bump it regardless.

If all else failed, Swahili could do wonders for the Black Middle-Class and Intelligentsia.

Meaning did it lower black on black violence? No, I don't believe so. During the late 80's and early 90's the form of hip hop you make reference to had to compete with "gangsta rap" and its many variants.
Political hip hop came first and then gangsta shit took off after NWA came out, mostly after niggaz4life dropped. I just remember how huge PE and BDP were back then, they had everybody acting pro-black. I think its better to have kids emulating Chuck D rather than 50 Cent. Nowadays its alll about your street rep, I SMH at poeple bragging about how many times theyve been shot like its some stripes...

Did they pay attention meaning did they recieve it as a good idea? Possibly. But what you should really be asking is if they actually APPLIED what they learned or changed living conditions (mentality) or habits.
Thats what i meant. Music (art) imitates life, but i think someone that is very influential can have an effect on culture and influence people.

MR RY,

YOU STRESSED, "Im not comparing real gangstas to a gimmick."

YES YOU ARE. WHEN YOU PUT THE WORD "gANgSTA" THEN PUT A SLASH TO IT AND PUT THE PUNK ASS WORD "THUg" THERE TO MAKE IT SEEM LIKE IT'S THE SAME SHIT, YOU ARE INFERRIN' THAT IT'S THE SAME, WHEN IT'S NOT. A gANgSTA'S A gANgSTA. A "THUg" IS EITHA A gIMMIK IMMORTALIZED BY TUPAC, OR THE LOWEST OF THE LOW. AIN'T NO HONOR IN THAT.

THEN YOU STRESSED, " Kids see fake thugs on tv and emulate that shit, wanting to be like thier favorite rapper."

REFERENCIN' THE WORD "THUg" IS FAKE. CALLIN' YOURSELF A "THUg" IS ADMITTIN' TO BEIN' A PIECE OF SHIT THAT THESE SQUARES TRY TO LABEL YOU, THUS REVERIN' THEY RACIST AND PREJUDICE VIEW AND PERCEPTION OF YOU. CAUSE THE ONLY REAL "THUgS" ARE THE POOR BROKE MUTHA-FUKAS THAT ARE PETTY ASS NOTHIN ASS PUNKS THAT WILL STAB YOU IN THE BAK. IT'S NOTHIN' TO BE PROUD OF, OR TO BRAg ABOUT, EVEN IF YOU IS BANgIN'. THE gAME OF LIFE IS TO ELEVATE. BEIN' A "THUg" IS A TEMPORARY STATE THAT NOBODY SHOULD WANT TO BE.

THEN YOU STRESSED, "I wonder if this has a negative impact on crime, kids acting out what thier favorite rapper talks about."

FOR THE NEW PEPSI gENERATION, YES. AND LIKE I SAID BEFORE, THE CHILDREN IN THE MAINSTREAM, OUT THE HOOD, THUS YOUR SUBURBAN gANgSTAS AND WIgKAS.

THEN YOU STRESSED, "Whereas in the political hip hop era kids were wearing red black and green and talking about being pro-black, this must of had some effect oon violence back then."

NAW, THE SHIT WAS A FAD. I REMEMBER HAVIN' RAPS TALKIN' DOWN ON THAT SHIT AND LABELIN' THAT FAD AN EASTCOAST FAD. MATTER OF FACT, I SHOULD POST THE LYRICS.

THEN YOU STRESSED, "I think the west had its share of political messaged rappers back in the day. Ice Cube, Ice T and Paris in the late 80's/early 90's always had a message, and cats like MC Ren and Kam held it down in the mid 90's."

WHERE THEM NIgKAS NOW? I KNOW PARIS JUST JOINED P.E AND PRODUCED THEY WHOLE ALBUM.
BUT YEAH, I LIKE MC REN'S SOLO ALBUM BUT HE AIN'T REALLY DID NOTHIN' AFTER THAT EXCEPT FEATURED FOR A FEW ALBUMS.
KAM AIN'T CAME WITH ANOTHA ONE BUT I SEEN HIM PROMOTE ON THE INTERNET AND KICCIN' IT WITH THE LIKS AND RAS KASS.

ICE CUBE PRODUCIN' MOVIES AND HAS A TELEVISION SHOW ON FX AND ABOUT TO COME WITH ANOTHA ALBUM. BUT HE SOFTENED UP AFTER THAT "DEATH CERTIFICATE" ALBUM. BY FAR HIS BEST ALBUM.

I feel what you're saying on comparing a thug to a gangsta, I didnt mean any disrespect by it, it all comes down to semantics. I think the average suburbanite kid doesnt know the difference and the term gangsta has been bastardized so much that people forget the true meaning.

Death Certificate is one of my all time favorite albums. I was feeling Kams Kamnesia as well. A lot of people didnt like it because there was some songs on a party vibe, but I think he did a good job of mixing his message with club friendly beats...

No one said that it did not come first. What I said is during that time it had to COMPETE with gangsta rap and its varients. Have you listened to RHYME PAYS by Ice-T? When did that album come out? IN the 80's right?

I just remember how huge PE and BDP were back then, they had everybody acting pro-black.
Yes, but their first albums were not pro black.

Both are hypocrites and liars. Red or Blue pill?

How much money do you spend on rap? Listen, I bet you shake your head at these artist who promote the bullshit, but would it be safe to assume that you are one of MANY people who say "but he still had a couple of good songs?"

Thats what i meant. Music (art) imitates life, but i think someone that is very influential can have an effect on culture and influence people.
If the people have a NEED or require influence. Right now these sheep are content with following trends, materialism, and being JUNKIES.

No, Criminal Minded is as street as it gets, By Any Means Necessary was when KRS started rapping about issues. Bum Rush The Show still had a message, ie Rightstarter and Megablast, even though it was nothing compared to Nation Of Milllions...

How is Chuck D a hypocrite? Is it because his boy is making himself look stupid on MTV, or because he was addicted to crack and beat his baby momma? I think Chuck has always been righteous and lives by his word...

I spend a lot on CD's and i am choosey on what i buy. I am from the old school so a lot of new shit is pure garbage to me. I am NOT one of the people that say "but he still had a couple of good songs". I dont support bullshit...

If you want to talk late 80s, I think you're talking about an era where the music was based upon what was happening around crack, ie. people bragging about selling it, or showing off the things they bought from it, or people telling people to stay away from it, it was truly art imitating life. Now more than ever I think it is the opposite. I think you got a lot of people who want to emulate what they see on TV, where as before people where emulating what they saw in person.
"Everyone I knew was selling crack, so lord knows how many people were smoking it."

Two songs does NOT constitute a pro black album.

Flav has been amos & andy/stepin fetchit ever since he joined the group (he was NOT an "original" member, but he later joined after chuck met him a couple of times.) Addicted to crack or beating your baby momma is wrong but people make mistakes. Yes it does contradict the message but he changed. Chuck is pro black right? What about the white women backstage who were all cozy with him and calling him "daddy?"

I spend a lot on CD's and i am choosey on what i buy. I am from the old school so a lot of new shit is pure garbage to me. I am NOT one of the people that say "but he still had a couple of good songs". I dont support bullshit...
So you're saying you don't listen to this bay shit? You're saying if you don't like an artist and the artist is a candy ass nigga that you will NOT support his shit no matter how many people bump it?

If so welcome to the club!!!!

I'll listen to anyone as long as they are being real. If someone is really a gangsta or a pimp and thats what they are rapping about then i can dig it. In the last year though ive mostly been listening to underground hip hop shit most people classify as back packer music. I havent bought a bay cd in a few years, way too much ignorance for my liking. Im tired of seeing and hearing negativity all the time, that shit takes a toll on you after a while...
