whats up with this progamming thing and hooking that shit up to the computer? is that necessary? im thinking of getting pro 97 from ebay probably, or maybe something less than a $100. any recommendations? and would i have to do all this programming shit to it?

hell no...I've never hooked mine up to the computer. U gotta see there are some SERIOUS scanners out there and the people who use them have everything from police to air traffic to trains etc etc programmed in. That's why they buy the super expensive 200+ channel units.

All u gotta do is buy a 50 (or even less if they make em) channel scanner and google "police scanner frequencies *your city*" and you'll find all you need....Fuck buyin that Radio Call book too unless you're a world traveler lol

They are around 200.00, but they do occasionally go on sale for 149.99

If you take care of it, you can pretty much get all your money back out of it if need be.
You do want the 1000 channel though
