went thumbing throught the rap section in a music store in munich. got a few suprises. e40 masterP and eminem cds as expected, but i also saw the luniz, keek the sneek, and two different sugawolf cds, for the skrilla and dangerous prospects.

also saw some new shit. just want to check if it is in the USA too or is it just an euro import. does jayz have a greatest hits album out? and the rza, the dude who did beats for wu tang, had a greatest hits out as well?
no nocturnal hustlers albums out here gotta wait till i get back to cop that one.

yeah, we got some stores that carry bay shit. it all depends on the distribution of the acts i guess.
you'll never find any artists whose albums aren't distributed by a bigger company i guess.
never saw any killa valley product or siccmade product in germany. there is a lot of shit that we ain't gettin here. but the major bay shit, yeah we can get it at the chain stores.

hahaha all the folks from the US who go to germany always check out munich it seems. there is just too much of a stereotype with that city to miss it.
be informed: not all of germany is like munich...
trust me, i lived there for two years and it's a hella cozy city but the folklore isn't really representative for germany.

I'm a mad Bay rap fan now living in England and some of the stores here have some Bay shit, but its CD's which they've imported from Germany, not the Bay. Go figure that out.

What kills me is that this shit is all like weak-ass copies which they getting from Germany and then retailing in major stores. It's all on this German label called 'ZYX' - ya heard of it UnLieutenant?

Some bay folks with labels need to start checking out if this is legit because they look like bootlegs, sound like cheap ass copies, and yet you got major stores here in the UK retailing this shit.

They horrible copies, I picked up Killa Tay's Thug Thizzle comp a few weeks back just cos it was cool to see a Bay CD in my hometown here, but it was actually a copy of one of his older albums with a badly printed cover of the Thug Thizzle one.

And on top of that shit, I dont know if US folks know this, but if a bay album ever does show up in a store here in the UK, they cost like £20 for one cd, thats like 30 dollars...

It's hard to swoop bay shit from over here with those prices, me I just import now from websites, like a box of CD's every month sent over. I get hit with customs charges and all types of hassle, but I'd rather be listening to anything from the Bay than some of the weak ass shit which does get UK release (hello Nelly, Puffy, Jay Z and Ja Rule).

Unliuetenant and TheWholeDamn: i feel you on that one. im here in Amsterdam and its the same over here. A lot of albums do get released here though, but you have to look really hard. I guess at least 65% in Bay Rap is imported over here.

I started importing cd's myself and spreading them in the stores over here in The Netherlands. Actually they were quite willing to buy them from me, I lost my stock within a month. But the final customer didnt really buy it. I got posters in the streets over here with my product on it plus I got posters and flyers in the stores, the store owners and workers were telling me that people were listening to it, but didn't buy it for whatever reason.

Although I didn't have the TOP product from the bay that could really spark an interest in the sound (only Ray Luv - Coup Détat did sell very fast), it still surprised me how little interest there is over here for Bay Rap. Because as you might know a lot of people are into hip hop over here.

By the way if you want to listen to dutch rap check this shit out:

http://stage.vitaminic.com/mc_barend_jan

its kind of a slapstick thing in which the artist (me) raps like he's a upclass elite type of fella so the voice is really high and thick layered with an upclass accent. The joke is that a lot of people over here into rap and especially into dutch rap are upclass so the song is kind of mockin them in an ironic friendly way.

I tell you though, I'm from Portugal originally and I never saw any Bay or Norcal rap out there, only got up on it in England. It's sad because to me Portugal has the right vibe and climate for people to be bumping the Yay sound, especially when you consider there a lot of Hispanic peoples putting it down in the Bay anyway. Coming from that background myself, it definately keeps me picking up different Bay CD's and comps.

Has any Bay artist ever performed or even travelled over to Europe? All I know is D-Shot has an English radio insert on one of his albums like he was travelling overseas, but it sounds like it was staged (they don't let you say that shit on most radio stations here!!)

good to see peeps from all over the world come together over this music thing.

@pimperoni: i guess it would sound strange to american ears. but germany has a very active rap scene. and the different areas are putting it down with different styles too. berlin is more on that independent tip like the bay while hamburg rappers are pushing major product in germany.
i hooked up a couple of peeps ufrom the US with some german shit.

@celly510: what you thought about that cd i sent you? i guess it's not as interesting for someone from the states to listen to foreign rap. vice versa it's easier cause everyone speaks english...

@laziemarv: that guy USO he was from denmark and he had some playa vibes. some of his shit was in english if i remember correctly. but would it even be possible for a non-US rapper to break into the american market? not to diss anyone but in my personal experience US citizens are too narrow-minded for anything like that.

@T-One: i wanted to get back to you about that GI album anyway. you could sell some copies on the internet over a certain site. i don't know about the stores cause i don't really know how the distribution system works. holla at me on the PM if you like.

@TheWholeDamn: i never heard of this label. they don't sell anything in germany to my knowledge. that's truly scandalous.
feeling you on that portugal thing too... but southern europe seems not too enthusiastic about rap anyway. that's my impression. the traditional music and style often plays a larger role in italy, spain and greece. germany is very much americanized regardless of what you see from "oktoberfest".

i can't think of a bay rapper or a westcoast rapper that came to germany except the luniz and snoop. that's really sad.
i guess peeps just ain't taking europe serious enough. many rappers from the bay probably think of europe as some kind of remote-ass wanna be US. but europe has its own style (each country here is different from the next one).
nevertheless, there is hiphop everywhere you go here. so the bay artists really should be put on some game regarding a large-ass market of 250+million people. or rather, overseas collaboration needs to increase as a whole. and we on this site are actually in a position to lay the foundation for this international shit.

awareness of bay rap in europe and european rap in the US need to be raised
LOL i didn't mean to get all preacherous and shit.. haha
