Niggas need to leave the thizz pills and weed alone and pick up some damn books!... Everyone wants to be the next 40 or Short, but NO ONE wants to learn the business. And I swear if they did the overall quality of the music coming out the bay area would shoot up exponentially. Maybe cats would actually learn how to write songs?
this is a good post right here i agree with this

Thanks for sharing that info fam. I just had a Dj from Japan hit me up a few weeks ago on myspace wanting to buy some of my Cali Green Cd's that I put out in 2001. I was surprised that dude got his hands on a my compilation. I asked where he got it and he said Amazon and he was telling me how he wanted to sell that cd in his store. There's a demand for Bay Area music over there from what he was telling me. Thanks again for sharing that info.
No problem. I love to share knowledge and hook ups with other artists. If I can help someone make money in this industry I will.

Japan has always been good to me. I might not be the biggest rapper in the Bay but Japanese business men used to go to the Music People in Oakland when it was there and buy my Music and take it back to Japan. My cdbaby sales are mostly from Japan (they usually buy them 30 at a time), and people tell me all the time that they make great money off of my music on ebay from Japanese buyers.

As far as your Mechanical Royalties, work that out with the people of whom you are working with, same with your points. Come to an agreement on your own.

Oh yeah if anyone is looking to clear samples or do covers, search the "Harry Fox Agency".

And you don't have to have a contract to get your royalties from your song, just make sure that your credit is posted inside of the cd of which your work is featured and send that cd to your publishing company along with a letter explaining that you would like to register your work on the project. Sometimes that is good enough, sometimes they will send you another form to fillout (mostly if you wrote the songs lyrics).

I am typing this whil feeding my 8-Month Old her Baby Cereal so I hope I didn't miss anything that you were asking.

Keep it pushin' BAY AREA.

You covered everything. Appreciate it bra

But just one more question.

Is it ever too late to register a work?? I had projects come out over 2 years ago in 2007, even though it is 2009 can I still send it to my publisher and collect royalties for it??

I have like 8 albums in stores with my name on all of them as well, I registered a stage name as well when I signed up for ASCAP.

I am currently registering some of my older work and also helping Undaflow of Kinsmoke/Federation register some of his older work. Just make sure on whatever for you put the music out there in you list your Publishing Company Name on that body of work.

great info.. it was also nice to read up on some of the things youve done... good shit....thanks 4 sharing pimp
Right On C-Dubb. Yeah I have been doing this since the age of 8. A lot of people in the Industry have came to me and hired me to handle business for them (Snoop Dogg, Bad Azz, Mobb Family, Lou-Nutt from Murder Dog Magazine, Land of da Lost, Messy Marv and Ect.) but I am just now getting respected by the majority of my peers within the Bay Area music scene.

I hope to finish my Book before 2010 and it should help people to get a little bit more familiar with who I am, where I come from, and what I have accomplished. It will also give tons of music industry information that should shave years of learning experience off of artists careers. It truly breaks down how to make money from every aspect of music and also how to market without breaking the bank.

SMMWest always comin' with that good info.

You already know I own my publishings through ASCAP, Homie.

Thing is, anybody can now go to http://www.ascap.com and register online. Although, they charge $25 per app. (writer & publisher), but back when I got it in 2001, it was FREE!

I been letting people know as far back as I can remember (in person & message boards) about gettting ASCAP and owning their publishings, but most people are ignorant when it comes to this stuff. They're too busy recording songs and putting their Cd on consignment at the swap meet & mom & pop's stores and peddling on the street, plus the internet. And has a vision that he's really "Hustlin'" and gonna make it if he keeps pushing, but has no idea about how he is supose to really be paid LOL!!!!
