I just got a job offer with the Port of Oakland at there office in Jack London, I know if I get off on 12th Street I can walk about 10 blocks but Imma be in slacks and dress shoes. Anybody else ever did this commute? Is it worth it to wait for a bus or take a cab? How grimy is it on Broadway during the night? I havent worked Downtown for 10 years and Jack London seems to be hella cool right now with all the resturants and condo's but its still town so I'm trying to guage if it's worth it drive or take bart.

I don't live in Oakland anymore I'm coming from Co Co County and my car is running like shit. So if I take the job I want to take bart until I can figure out and fix whats wrong with my car. I don't want to be late for a new job and I don't want to be getting robbed on the way home walking to bart at night so I'm trying to figure out if its worth it. lol
I have not been to Oakland in 6 or 7 years, but from my personal experience, being black is a big fucking plus. your best option would be the taxi. what you should do is go to work in your regular street cloths and have your work cloths ready in a back pak so you can put it on when you get their.

how late at night are you walking around?
if you're getting off work at like 5:00 I think you should be fine, it won't be dark out and there should still be a lot of people just getting off work and shit working around.
I take BART to downtown Oakland and never had any issues whatsoever, but I get off at 19th and only have a 5 minute walk to work. also get off work at 4:30, sometimes 5-5:30 if I work late. although I've also walked around that area by myself after dark with no problems.
I have seen some grimey lookin dudes on Broadway though, so maybe you should just drive

Dude, be careful, that area has become overrun with knuckleheads that love to catch folks slipping...my homeboy was shot 3 times at Jack london, its hella grimy blood. Just look at the ground and dont make eye contact with anyone, and carry lots of change, because if you dont shoot the bums a lil something they will sick the young cats on you to shake you down....be careful homie, you might wanna just bring a strap or two with you just in case....a knife wont do you any good and pepper spray is like binaca to those hardened oakland thugs, hell..i think some of those dudes have evolved into a bulletproof race of monsters...

I remember broadway at night being full of dope feins and people do get jacked over there all the time so don't act like its hella cool like it's not a factor to think about if your going to be walking that shit every night lol

Even if he had his own car to drive he's not totally safe. It doesn't matter if it is broad day light, fools love to walk up on cars waiting for the light to go green. the first time that shit happened to me I wasn't paying attention, the motherfucker leaned over and stuck his big black head into my car and started fucking with me while his boy opened up the passenger car door, i had to think quick and ran the red light.
