As most of you know I recently became a Raiders fan because of the signing of Aaron Brooks. Most of these suckaz on here called me a "bandwagon" fan. For the idiots that called me a bandwagon fan read the definition below. I am not a bandwagon fan.
A bandwagon fan is a phrase used among sports fans to describe a sports fan that only roots for popular and successful sports franchises. This kind of fan is typically despised in the sports fandom.
Characteristics
A bandwagon sports fan will typically root for a team in a particular sport that is the most visible and is successful. Most often bandwagon fans prefer teams that have a long tradition of winning championships (New York Yankees, Dallas Cowboys, Los Angeles Lakers, Chicago Bulls, Duke basketball, Notre Dame football) as well as having well known popular athletes playing for those teams such as Derek Jeter, Magic Johnson or Michael Jordan. However just because a sports team wins the championship frequently does not mean the team will have bandwagon fans. A team must not only win championships but must have dynamic and popular players to be on the team for successful bandwagon fandom. For example even though the San Antonio Spurs have won 3 championships in the last 6 years it has yet to form a significant bandwagon base due to lack of dynamic stars such as Kobe Bryant or Allen Iverson. Sometimes bandwagon fans root for a particular team not because of the merits of that team but because of a presence of a very popular player on that team. Bandwagon fans are frequently accused of having no loyalty to one particular team but constantly changing their favorite team based on present success. Many bandwagon fans usually come from cities where no certain franchise for any sport exist, or places where certain franchises are playing poorly, or some of them show lack of patriotism.
Now lets break it down for the idiots who called me bandwagon fan.
Sometimes bandwagon fans root for a particular team not because of the merits of that team but because of a presence of a very popular player on that team. -----Brooks is not a very popular player on the team. According to some of you... he's washed up. Missed me!!
Bandwagon fans are frequently accused of having no loyalty to one particular team but constantly changing their favorite team based on present success.----The Raiders have not been successful these past few seasons. Missed me again!!
Many bandwagon fans usually come from cities where no certain franchise for any sport exist, or places where certain franchises are playing poorly, or some of them show lack of patriotism.-----Yes the 49ers and Raiders were playing poorly but that wasn't my reason for disliking them. I never had any hate for the Raiders... but the Niners let go of some really great and loyal players.
So as you can see I don't fit the desription of a "bandwagon" fan. So when the Raiders start winning this season just remember I became a fan before the team started having success this season. I became a Raider fan when the team started the season 0-0. If I was bandwagon fan like the article stated then I'd be a Steeler or Patriot fan because their franchises have been successful. I am riding with the Raiders coming off of a 4-12 season.
