hmmmm... just colors? the differences are endless in reality...
(yes all of this is known by the feds. Don't act like I'm some newsbreaker I'm just pointing many known things out at once.)
1. Norte is bangin half the state while 90% of Sur is bangin varrios.
2. Sur membership isn't as open minded in terms of race and is usually more Mexican and by far less white or mixed and never black (don't quote that last part I'm sure there has somehow someway been a black dude in a Mexican gang down here at one time).
3. Sur is down with the paisa car and aryans in prison.
4. Norte is down with black gangs across the board (of course there are exceptions) primarily in northern california and especially/officially in prison.
5. Nortenos do not have power south of the 13/14 supposed border (which is: San Luis Obispo, Kern, & San Bernardino counties on the South Side and Monterey, Kings, Tulare, & Inyo counties on the North Side).
6. "Surenos" have clicks north of the 13/14 supposed border despite the fact that they are usually not originally cholos from Southern California.
7. Nortenos are currently united on the streets (once again there are exceptions).
8. Surenos are supposed to be united but there is no reason for them to be so they aren't at all on the streets.
9. Nortenos care about colors (red and blue) on the streets.
10. Surenos know of the colors but do not care anywhere near as much about colors as Nortenos.
11. Nortenos generally have better rappers (I.M.O. so don't trip).
12. Surenos generally have better graffiti writers (I.M.O. so don't trip).
13. Surenos outnumber Nortenos by way more than 200% overall.
14. Nortenos (on this board at least) seem to be on a more righteous directional path (I.M.O.) and despise the sometimes skanless actions of Surenos (especially the "Surenos" up north).
15. Surenos don't seem to be on a path and couldn't care less about the actions of anyone up north unless they were visiting up there.
16. Nortenos are said to be the most organized in CA prisons.
17. Surenos are said to be the most powerful in CA prisons.
18. Northern California is much larger and has many more open spots to start up new gangs than the dense Southland.
19. Surenos are referred to as Cholos by the general public down south.
20. Nortenos are referred to as Nortenos by the general public up north.
21. Surenos (especially younger ones) are bald 19 times out of 20.
22. Nortenos on the street often have Mongolian braids but some are bald and many are "other".
23. SOME (not all for i know there are plenty that do not) Nortenos wear more "hip-hop" style clothes (ecko, fubu, tommy hilfiger, etc.) possibly due to the more open-minded lifestyle where there is unity between Blacks and Nortenos and many Nortenos do not know Spanish and have more of an African-American influenced drawl. I base this on people I have met up there and many Norteno rappers I have heard.
24. Active cholos USUALLY want to be recognized as cholos so they dress like cholos (pelones, pendletons, ben davis, cortez, lots of brown, etc.) and usually talk in a more stereotypical Chicano tone or in Español straight up. I base this on what I see everyday. Of course, at first glance, there are many Nortenos that look and act exactly like Surenos aside from the red clothing.
25. Many non-bangers up north throw the word "scrap" around like it is equivalent to all Surenos when a non-banger down here would be a fool for using the disrespectful word "Chap" to replace the word "Norteno" as if it was nothing. Any Norteno would be expected to say "Scrapa" and it would make sense for a Sureno to throw around "Chapeta" but non-bangers are crossing the line for sure in doing either one. (confusing I know)

28. Nortenos have the Huelga Bird and have roots in Farmworkers rights of the 1960's
29. Surenos symbols are not as well established and have roots in brown rights and zoot suiters of the 1940's

1. one is 13 (X3, XIII) so the other became 14 (X4, XIV)
2. one wore blue (prison) so the other wore red
3. one claimed south so the other claimed north
4. one said "Ese" (though it doesn't actually mean Sureno) so the other started saying "Ene"
5. one has SurStreetwear so the other starts NorteStreetwear & various other lines
6. both have Mexican roots & are supposed to be Chicano gangs

8. both originated from a need for protection in prison
9. both grew up on "Gangster Oldies" & Art Laboe (of course not all)
10. both deal drugs
