MUSLIM leaders in Asia today condemned the US attack on Iraq, warning that Americans would never live in peace again.
Speaking minutes after George W Bush announced that war in Iraq had begun, Syafii Maarif, head of the 30-million-strong moderate Muhammadiyah Muslim group in Indonesia, said: "This is not an attack on Islam but an attack on humanity."

Indonesia is the world`s most populous Muslim nation. Its cabinet is due to discuss the US attack at a meeting later today, before releasing an official response.

In Malaysia, the conservative Islamic opposition said Allah would bring about America`s eventual downfall. Abdul Hadi Awang, the president of Parti Islam se-Malaysia (PAS), said: "This despicable war exposes the ugliness of America and its allies.

"PAS is convinced that this war is the start of America`s destruction because Allah will not let any major power reign supreme forever."

Thailand`s Muslims also condemned the US actions, saying US citizens would never live in peace again. Murid Timasaen, spokesman for the Thai Muslims for Peace group, added: "They have attracted more enemies than ever, not only from the Muslim world but also from the Buddhist community. Countries like Iraq don`t have the capacity to fight the Americans in a conventional war, so more terrorist means will be deployed against the Americans."

Thailand`s government said it wanted no part in the war.

However, Thaksin Shinawatra, the prime minister, said: "We are ready to help rehabilitate (Iraq) after the fighting, up to the extent of our resources.

"At this stage, we hope the war casualties will be confined only to military targets and not on civilians." Their condemnation of military action in Iraq came just hours after the first shots of the war.

The US-led war was not universally condemned in Asia, however.

Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, the Philippine president, said Manila was giving political and moral support for actions to rid Iraq of weapons of mass destruction.

"The war has just begun," she said. "The Philippines is part of the coalition of the willing."

Lauro Baja, the Philippine foreign affairs undersecretary, is currently in Malaysia, attending a foreign ministers meeting of the Association of South East Asian Nations (Asean).

He said: "The greatest fears of Asean ministers are the upsurge of terrorism and the negative effects on the economy. The hopes of the international community is that this war will be short."

China had no immediate comment on the start of hostilities.

See this is what gets me dogg. You got all these AMERICANS protesting the war. If Bush did not take actions and lets say a terrorist attack happened on the U.S. all them bitches protestin would turn to Bush and say why didn't you do anything. Them protestors didn't protest when Hussein killed all the Kurds with chemical weapons. People also protested when America wanted to go into WWII and fight Germany. Did they not understand that millions of innocent people were getting killed? America is the only super power in the world left and we have to do anything to maintain our status. My dude fought in Desert he said he never even saw a Iraqi. When my pops fought in Vietnam, they didn't have planes going through and blowing everything up. It was ground combat fighting with the enemy most of the day. He was on the frontline of that shit. I got a few homies posted in Turkey and Kuwait right now. I'd go over there if I was drafted cuz thats my duty. All these mutha fuckas need to quit bitchin and stand behind what the President says regardless of if he is wrong or right. Also these bitch ass actors and these faggot ass hippy rock groups keep bitchin and makin songs. Its easy to criticize when you aint gotta go overseas and shoot mutha fuckas. Thats my 2 cents.

Some of yall sound like Idiots... This war aint about protecting US from terrorism, it's about control of the Iraqi economy. They say Sadaam didn't disarm... Why havn't they uncovered any weapons of mass distruction??? Sadaam IS NOT by any means innocent , but they could care less. He could do WHATEVER to WHOMEVER if he was willing to comply with US sanctions on his country's economy. Yall need to study b4 u comment... the war just needs to get over with, i dont totally agree with the war but i dont totally disagree with it. saddam is a very untrustworthy man with power, hes also a dictator, i think that it is a good idea to take him out of power. (this is info i heard chango say on raptalk) after the gulf war saddam violated weapon agreements with the US many times and he will continue until we do something about it.

the war will also help our economy. the stock market has already gone up a lot since president bush's declaration of war

The war is ALL about our economy! Who's in power don't matter. If they don't conform, the US is takin any measure 2 get rid of 'em. EVERYTHING we hear in these press conferences is DRAG!!! We have no power 2 change it anyway. All we can do is debate the shit, but their decisions affect our lives greatly.
