Does anyone feel that the government is turning towards a totalitarian system? I mean, just this last week Lennox Yearwood was refused the right to enter Petraeus' hearing at the Capitol, taken down with excessive force and still charged with assaulting police and disorderly conduct. The man is a preacher for goodness sake; and a student at Florida was tasered for asking why no one has tried to impeach Bush and pointing out his affiliation with the Skull & Bones "fraternity." All in the last week. :hurt: This shit is getting out of hand.

Ding ding ding! Wrong!

Read the thread about it in the open forum.

The kid got tased because he was a spoonfed rich boogy white boy trying to turn the fact that he got escorted out of a building into some "Free Mumia" shit. Him getting tased had NOTHING to do with his questions and everything to do with the fact that he acted like a little bitch.

And if you motherfuckers think America is police state, try living in an actual police state. People take these little isolated incidents about one guy getting beat up by the cops or arrested as full on proof that we have a totalitarian government...hilarious.

First line:
"Does anyone feel that the government is turning towards a totalitarian system?"

It's a legitimate question/concern. We are currently at a time and place when this kind of behavior is common place. I find it alarming that people actually are defending police for sending 50,000 volts through a persons body because they are nerdy white boys, irritating, or "stupid." Over a 150 taser related deaths in the US since 2001 (last years figures), most as a result of extremely minor things (like noise violation, speeding, etc.). Not to mention thousands of protesters being locked up at political conventions with false charges or for violating "free speech zones" rules, etc. Our rights have slowly been taken away from the Bush Administration, so yeah, we certainly may be headed towards a totalitarian-like system and people should be very concerned.

Yeah it does. But really the cops have been bitches. since the 90s.

What would make this a police state would be cameras and microchip implants...

Cops have ALWAYS been assholes... they just never got recorded before.. because not everyone had digital cams.. and cams on their cell phones like they do now.

But people get beat up in the ghetto everyday..

Oh and if you think those incidents.. are bad.. just go to New York... they don't let you do anything there.. they give you a ticket for making a U Turn.. or blinking the wrong way...

New York is a police state

I edited my post in case you missed it.

I've seen the video and I see it for exactly what it is. A young man, probably out to prove a point was tased by police because he wouldn't leave. I think there were like 5-6 police officers there. Completely unnecessary to send 50,000 volts through his body and put his life in danger when they could have easily avoided that whole situation.

He was tased by police because he wouldnt stop struggling and screaming. He coulda just let them escort him out of the building, walked out the front door, and did it movin.

Its not like they just decided to pin him down and tase him. He was acting like a little histrionic bitch and struggling.

He tried to turn a petty incident into some rodney king shit, and got treated like rodney king as a result.

Like I said, it is obvious the kid had never been in real trouble. He was a pussy ass rich college whiteboy with parents like Cartmom's mom, thinkin he was on some UC berkeley shit because he got escorted out of a building. He probly just got done reading Che's autobiography and goin out thinkin he was the 5th member of Rage Against the Machine.

Rich kids from the burbs, dont try and be a revolutionary if you dont even know how to deal with cops or a potentially scary situation.

I wouldn't use him as a poster boy for police brutality but look, this thread isn't about that one particular incident. If you want better examples look into that pregnant lady that got tased on her wedding day and lost the baby all because the music was too loud, look into the lady that got polled over and argued with the cops for 7 seconds before getting tased, look into the thousands of protesters that were imprisoned for peacefully protesting the republican and democrat conventions, etc., etc., etc.

It's common place these days and you're attitude regarding the rich kid from the burbs shows just how normal this shit has become. Is it really EVER ok to send 50,000 volts through someones body who is not threatening anyone else's life? Couldn't they just drag his ass off? Hand Cuff him? Even pepper spray?

As far as the kid, if not tazing, they should have beat his ass, or something. I would be pissed as fuck if I was in that crowd and genuinely interested in seeing Kerry speak or waiting my turn to ask a question.

But as far as the wider question goes, I am in agreement with you about the overuse of tazers and the rise of police brutality. It is something that, along with many other aspects of our society, definitely needs to change.

On the same hand I dont think people realize the heavy price that being a cop takes on most police officers. Many are depressed, alchoholics, commit suicide, etc. Spending a good deal of time adrenalized or with the possibility of harm or personal injury has to fuck with your head. And I dont think people can look at policing and say that it can be a perfect system with no mistakes.

But change does need to occur, and people only need to look towards the example of how more conflicts are solved peacefully when female officers are present for evidence that a change needs to occur in police culture.

i think we need to look past what police do and look at what they CAN do

here, in wisconsin, it's illegal to own or possess a taser (as it is in some other states), yet the police have them...and not only the regular police, but the fuckin pussy ass campus police have them too

cops do not have to respect your freedom of speech or assembly when you are protesting. they can throw your ass in jail using discretionary power. now, you may get out of jail and go back to protesting, but your ass is gonna get arrested again...police can choose to ignore the bill of rights

cops went from not having to have a valid search warrant to enter your house, car, etc. as long as they had a search warrant which was granted at some point...now, cops do not have to have a search warrant to enter your house, car, etc. as long as they have a "good" reason to search for something
