You ever use professors or former professors as job references?

I'm applying for a job in the accounting field (I'm still working on my BA, but the job doesn't require one) and I was thinking it would be good to ask a professor if I could list him as a reference

last quarter and the quarter before that I had the same professor for 2 separate accounting courses, and I got an A in both his classes...

I just feel weird asking him, because I don't know if he remembers who the fuck I am... I've talked to him one on one on a couple occasions... but wasn't raising my hand every minutes in class or anything

last quarter we had to do a case study and present it with a power point presentation... I got an A on the project as well and still have it saved... so I could show that to him as well to possibly refresh his memory and show I can do good work

the guy has a PHD, he's a CPA and has tons of experience, so he's be a good reference obviously...

just wondering if anyone here did this before and how you went about it... I was gonna shoot him an email and see what he says

Yes. Its one of the better references you can use. Trust me, putting down your homie does nothing for employers.
oh yeah, I def wouldn't put down one of my homies as a reference

I got my boss at my old job and a few ex-co workers I could use... I'm thinking 2 professional references and an academic reference

Wouldnt hurt one bit!

what type of job you going for?
it's accounting assistant for a marketing company

one of the few jobs I could find related to my degree that doesn't require a bachelors degree

and I'm trying to get more experience now so when I graduate I'll be in a better position

Meta, sounds like you will be doing data entry/ invoicing, meaning the employer will be looking for someone to stick around a while and not fuck off when they get bored after 2 weeks.

my suggestion is that if you get the interview, sell yourself on the bigger picture and let them know you are there for the long term (who cares if you are gonna stay or not, just lie). Find out info about their company.

If you get an interview, make sure you speak clearly and fluently, don't use fillers like errr uhm and uhm.. keep eye contact but don't stare them down like you are about to beat them to death, lean forward, use hand movements but not like you are conducting an orchestra, this will show them confidence, smile, be happy and remember no matter what the piece of shit sitting on the opposite side of the table is no better than you.

Good luck!!

Yeah dude definitely put your proffesors on a job reference i used to use one of my teachers all the time just let them know before u do it. Send them an email or something and explain to them why you would like to put them as a reference. I know it seems like they dont remember you (which they probably won't) but they are always usually willing to help a student.

right on. I figured most professors would be willing to help

did you send em a copy of your resume as well just so they'd be more familiar with you?

Up to this point your experience = school

a former professor is most likely going to be a reference on nearly all college grad resumes.

You could go for two scoops of pimping and ask the professor to write you a letter of recommendation along with the ability to use them as a reference.

Definitly do it. Ur professor will remember who u are. My marketing, DSC, and math classes had atleast 150 + students. All my professors rememebered me.

I'm kinda in the same process but it'll be paid internship. Imma get my masters in business anyways wit this piece of shit economy, so by the time I'm done wit my masters, hopefully the economy is gettin better.

hell yeah man... I was thinkin the same thing

it seems like a Bachelors Degree is like a high school diploma these days... and I don't even have that yet! (I mean I don't have my Bachelors... not my diploma... I have that and an associates degree)
