I'm directing this at you because you seem to be the most educated on the topic. I was just wondering as someone who has VERY VERY little bible knowledge. Where is a good place to start reading the bible, what version, why is there so many different versions. I am not trying to find god thru the bible. I would just like to read it and see what's up with this book that has been translated, and reproduced more then any other book in history. I don't know greek or hebrew but i'd like to read a version that keeps it as real to the original as Possible.
Thanks.
The more versions you can get a hold of, the better.
There's different versions becuase everyone's tryin to make the perfect translation,
unfortunately no one version is with out its flaws.
The King James version is believed to be the best but it's hard for most to read cuz its written in that "Thou, thee" old English style. You can pick up the New King James version which is the version that I read. Just do some research in some of its incorrect translations and you'll be alright as long as you are aware of them. (pick up a copy with a concordance)
When you do get a hold of a bible, start off by reading the gospels.
It is important to read these first because they deal with Jesus's life, thus His Word.

Hope this helps,
