you can also go to Last.fm or to pandora radio and type in the bands and it will play songs of bands that are similar to that for free.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds is a hard one to make recommendations for. Um, try Tom Waits, DeVotchKa, and The World/Inferno Friendship Society. Also before Bad Seeds he was part of a band called The Birthday Party which was awesome, totally different sound, old school goth/post-punk. He is also part of a band called Grinderman which I guess you would call Garage rock, good stuff as well. He has worked on a quite a few movie scores too which are all worth buying/downloading.

Blind Melon was just a great 90s alternative band. I really can't think of anyone off top they sound like that you probably wouldn't know about. Their album Soup is one of the most underrated albums ever in my opinion.

I'll let RJ handle Thrice for you...I just worked a 12 hour shift and I'm way too tired to think any harder lol.

The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus. I picked up their album last year on a whim and it didn't disappoint. A similar band would be probably Alexisonfire or actually check out a Canadian band named "Ten Second Epic". The album "Count Yourself In" is always within reach of my CD player....Here's their myspace check some tracks out..

The Casualties
Thrice
Phish
I listen to these 3 bands.

Fav Albums:

The Casualties - "Die Hards" If you like one album you'll probably like the rest.

Thrice - "Identity Crisis" I freakin love this album. Everything else is okay at best IMO.

Phish - All their studio albums are pretty lame for the most part IMO. They have a ton of live albums though which are pretty sweet. They'll go off for like 20 minutes on one big long solo/jam.

Red Jumpsuit Apparatus
Matchbox 20
Goo Goo Dolls
Thrice
Phish
Blind Melon
Porcupine Tree
Jamiroqoui
I actually just listened to Red Jumpsuit Apparatus the other day....hated it.

I wanna beat Rob Thomas' face in. And i hate Matchbox 20.

Goo Goo Dolls are OK...their old school stuff is cool.

Thrice rules. Old Thrice and new Thrice = completely differnet band. See B-Buzz's recommendations.

Was never a Phish fan. They are hippie/psychodelic stuff.

Blind Melon was a good band...they were grunish. Tehri self titles album is their best IMO.

Porcupine Tree is a good band. I wish I could recommend a single album, but i cant. They have been extremely consisitant since they started. Their newer stuff is way more prog-rock/metal. I would start from the begining and work my way to the end as far as their albums are concerned. I can probably UL them all for you if I get some free time.

Thrice
Blind Melon
Porcupine Tree
Thrice: Finch, The Receiving End of Sirens, Funeral For a Friend, Brand New, Circa Survive, Emery, perhaps even Thursday.

Blind Melon: Gin Blossoms? Radiohead? I don't really listen to Blind Melon that much anymore but I did when I was younger. Good music!

Porcupine Tree: Opeth. Though Opeth has many hard METAL songs, a lot of their music sounds much like Porcupine Tree. Listen to the album Damnation, very similar, very good.

Blur - They did "Song 2" for the Starship Troopers SDTK, and the lead singer Damon Albarn went on to make Gorillaz famous with Del the Funkee Homosapien and Dan the Automater. I can't really think of anything directly comperable, but time association makes me think of Third Eye Blind, The Verve, and Oasis.
