I can relate. One of my exes was a pharmacy tech and he used to prescribe himself weed and all these other meds. Not to mention, sell it as well. Kinda funny how he used to sell drugs to pay for his education to become a pharmacist. I'm sure he still does it, though.
yeah reminds me of a past friend from san jo that was working 40 hrs at a pharm and would sell to pay for college tuition but eventually he turned reliant on opiates and got caught stealing a bunch of pills and was given multiple felony counts. still locked up and any dreams he had were crushed. wasn't the jobs fault but if you have an addictive personality i would reconsider having a job with that tempation.

I agree. I've considered becoming a Pharmacy Tech, but I wanna become a doctor, eventually.

honestly every person I've been around that have said they are interesting in a career as a pharm technician has been or eventually turned into a drug addict.

not that has anything to do with you, but because of that I guess I'm curious to ask why would you like to pursue that path? money? chemistry and knowledge? something that you see could work out in the long run? if you have any thoughts about easy scripts or cutting corners i would advise against it.

You could help many people to get there meds and since its a pretty universal job you could probably move and find new work with somewhat ease.
Not interested in doing any illegal shit. Just trying to get some feedback from anyone on here that does this for a living in case I do decide to pursue it.

instead of going to school 2 years in Pharm Tech

get a degree in Bio or Chem... get in to a Pharm School... and make six digits working in a wallgreens, and upper hun k in a hospital.

I know a few people that did this, and its just side-tracked there main goal... faster you get in to med school faster you out and make that $$$

From what i've read going to school to become a pharmacy tech is only like a 9month process.

In a lot of Counties, there are programs (ROP, shit like that) where you can take the Pharm Tech course for free. A lot of bitches that had to get trained or get cut off of their welfare that I knew took the course, and most of them are in jail for theft and distribution, now.

become a pharmacy tech and keep going to school to become an actual pharmacist

I think they average around $50 an hour
that sounds like a good route to pursue.

and if it doesn't work out like you planned it, at least you know that you could always get a job with one of the many clandestine crystal meth super labs south of the border. i'm sure they pay above average. jp

Most of the people I know who are Pharmacy Techs work for a staffing company as a 'floater', goin from place to place to fill in for people on vacation or whatever. Its hard to get a full-time, perm job in a pharmacy right off the bat.

My friend just went to pharm tech school and is having trouble finding a job. Even medical jobs are hard to find nowadays, U should consider RN, way more $ and more jobs..

^ Even harder to find a job right now, especially for new grads.

@Brown, pharm techs here at my work are making around $27. I work in SF @ a hospital. Could be worth looking in to.

Agree, pharmacist is where the money is at. I know you can get $50+/hour right out of college, and depending on where you live, a sign on bonus. It's not easy getting your doctorate of pharmacy as many schools its a 6-7 year program.

And whoever said they knew a pharm tech that prescribed for themselves I am pretty sure that's false considering a pharmacist can't even prescribe.
