When I was in strength training we did them. They are when you start off on your back its hard to explain. But heres an example you ever watch wrestling? Well i seen the wrestler Shawn Michaels do them everytime he pops up to do his finisher.
push ups, sit ups, presses, curling, some running or some time on a treadmill doesnt hurt either. i hit the punching bags for a while too, it helps out.
it all depends on what ur lookin' for, power, speed, toning up or just overall appearance.
I PREFER FREE WEIGHTS AS OPPOSED TO MACHINES CUZ MACHINES LIMIT YOU, PRETTY SOON YOU ARE LIFTING THE WHOLE STACK AND CAN'T GO UP NO MORE. I USE MACHINES AS A SUPPLEMENT TO MY WORKOUT AFTER I HIT THE FREE WEIGHTS. I LIMIT MYSELF TO NO MORE THAN 90MINUTES A DAY AND AT LEAST ONE DAY OF REST WHERE I DO NOTHING BUT SIT ON MY ASS A WEEK USUALLY SUNDAY. AND YEAH YOU GOTS TO SPLIT UP BODY PARTS OR ELSE YOU WILL NEVER FULLY FOCUS ON ONE BREAK DOWN THE WHOLE MUSCLE AND REST GIVING IT TIME TO GROW.
Nip ups: you tie your nipples to your bar with wire and proceed to benchpress. The resistience of your nipples pulling back down on the bar as you press builds biceps

I got problems with putting on weight period. anyone got any suggestions. I am about 5'9" and wieigh about 135 lbs. I worked out for nearly three months on a similar routine that most of you all are suggesting while eating a hell of a lot. I topped out at about 143 at night and 139 in the morning. the only thing is I did very little cardio (partly cause I aint really got any fat to burn) and probably didnt drink quite enough water. do those really help that much??
any help and suggestions will be appreciatied. My goal is to reach 150 by the new year. and an ultimate goal of 165+ by next summer

Damn homie, I have the exact opposite problem. I can gain 10 pounds in 3 days, and thats for real. This past summer I gained 60 pounds without even trying. I can lose weight hella fast though too, but not nearly as fast as I gain it. It sucks that my weight fluctuates so damn much. It makes it hard to maintain any goal weight.
