Despite the announcement a couple weeks back of the film going into production, it seems that budget concerns from the studio has caused everything to halt, until Universal and director Gore Verbinski can figure out a way to keep it at a more reasonable amount.
Adapted by John Logan (Gladiator, The Avaiator) the flick was gearing up to shoot in Los Angeles, but that quickly changed when the budget rose to the vicinity of $160-million. They're considering shooting outside the US in places like London to take advantage of the tax credit.
Verbinski and the studio are still determined to make the pic and vow that Bioshock will "not become another Halo," where the proposed live-action adaptation of the Microsoft game was going to be made into a film by Universal and Fox until both studios canceled the deal over budget fears.
