1 Deep: Just got your PM homie. LOL@ everyone telling you to PM me. That's tight.....

I graduated in 2006 with my PharmD and have been working as a retail pharmacist for almost 2 years. Basically, I think becoming a pharmacist is the best decision I ever made. Job security is unbelievable with all the baby boomers aging and more and more of them needing maintenance medication to control their chronic diseases (ie. diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol, etc.) School was pretty fucking hard. I would say that getting all the pre-reqs done and getting accepted was the most difficult part about it. Organic Chemistry, Physics, all the Biology classes, Calculus and shit were pretty fucking tough. I don't know anything about the PCAT because the University of New Mexico College of Pharmacy didn't require it when I applied. They do now, though, and I think most schools do. I think once you're in the College of Pharmacy it's much better. You're learning what you are really interested in. The classes are very challenging and you will have to study. It just depends on the individual and how well they retain information that determines how much you will have to study. I did great by studying for like one day before a test, and others studied every day for every class and struggled. I retain information pretty easily, and I can understand things pretty easily too. There are a shit load of pharmacist positions out there and it is just going to get better as the baby boomers age. I could just about guarantee you that when you graduate you will make well into $100,000 a year right after graduation and probably get a sign on bonus if you choose. If you're really interested look into becoming a Certified Pharmacy Technician so you can begin to learn the ropes and start to learn medications and shit. Make some relationships with some pharmacists so that you can have some good letters of recommendation. Go talk to the Pharmacy advisor at your school and get a plan of what classes you need and when to take them. I hope this info helps man. Good luck in your decision and hit me up if you have any other questions....

How much do certified technicians make? How long did your program take to complete?
From what I've seen Technicians probably make like $12/hour. I personally don't think that's really a great option for a career when Pharmacists make about $55/hour or more usually. The PharmD program I went through is a 6 year gig, and that's how long it took me. Thankfully I got accepted the first time I applied and went right through the program. At UNM they have it setup where you do 2 years of prerequisites and then you apply for the College of Pharmacy and once you're accepted it's 4 more years of just Pharmacy courses.....

COngrats bro..im set to graduate this fall too
Cool man, congrats as well. Nursing too?

Yeah, I've thought about it. I'm just starting so I'm trying not to get to set on anything. Just aim high but have a few back up plans.

Congrats BTW!
Thanks! Just make sure you pick something you will be happy doing. There were a couple people in my nursing class that found out midway into the program that it just wasn't for them, and wound up either quitting or failing. They wound up wasting both their precious time and money.

Any career in the medical field is gonna be hard, but the payoff is gonna be well worth it. You're gonna get paid well, and it truly feels good to help people.

There will probably be roadblocks and bumps in the road. But any aspect of life that is worth pursuing will have them too. Just stick with it and follow your vision. I got into a fucked up situation with classes for a lil while, and wound up switching schools a couple times, and it made me wanna quit. Hell, a lot of people quit. But I kept my vision alive throughout the whole thing, and soon its gonna pay off.

Good luck to you, whatever career path you choose. Your vision can become a reality if you stick with it.

I know Pharmacy Schooling aint no joke. I am going to UOP for my MBA, and they got a pretty legit Pharmacy program. My boy's girlfriend is in it, and she says its hell. But like Cranky said, the payoff will be well worth it.

Business or Medical - either way your making real money, Iam glad I chose business. It comes natural to me. I did pre-med shit was boring. I want to do different things with my life. I could not work in one spot too long.
