Alright I'm finally going back to school next week and I'm trying to figure out if going for med school, or pharmacy school is going to be worth going through the 79 science class/labs. I did poorly in high school but put forth 0 minutes of studying and -37% effort. I've taken one college chemistry class and got a C off doing about 18 minutes of studying total so I know I'm capable of doing A LOT better.

What I'm basically trying to figure out is how hard is to get in to med/pharmacy school? How hard is it to make it through once your in? Do you think my military background could help me out at all? Any advice or stories from you/family/friends would be appreciated.

BTW, I tried contacting a couple different advisors and they basically told me nothing more then do a lot of science and do it well, and come back in 2 years and we'll discuss your situation.

Thanks in advance.

easier to get into pharmacy school, than it is to get into med school.

my homegirl got a low B average at UCLA and couldn't get into any med school worth going to.

Two of my old school homies went to UCI, one didn't have the grades to get into a good med or pharmacy school, but an unaccredited pharm school in Vegas accepted him. He now makes a very good living working for the pharmacy at Rite Aid. Yeah, he owes roughly 90K, but he's making really good money.

Other homie barely had grades to get into some med school in Ohio, part of the agreement is that he would do 4 years of residency out there when he graduated. After the 4 years he came home and is now working for Kaiser.

He's a DO, though (osteopathic), which is obviously different than an MD, but they are both accepted as "complete" doctors.

Im currently looking into pharmacy after I get my degree.

way it works for most people is they get all the pre-med pre-req's done. Like all the Chems, Bio's and Maths (cal1,2)

then get a degree in either Chem or Bio ( a lot of the pre-req's work toward the degree)

then apply to Pharm school, its another 3 years. But you'll graduate with a Pharm D. Pharmacy version of a PhD

Med school is really hard to get into and the student loans are crazy, but once u are in then u are in. Just try to pass! Do the best on Pre-reqs and it's a lot easier to get into pharm than med. I know nursing is hell to get into in Cali. 50+/ an hr isn't bad at all for nursing. The science classes are pretty hard and then getting into them is hell too because there's always a waiting list and if you don't make it to Med school or pharm (hope u do) dental hygenist and registered nurses make good money, that can always be ur back up plan. If you didn't really care much abt studying HS, the science classes help u learn how to study and get serious. G'luck and it's def worth it and very promising.

And try asking your counselor about requirements for UOP in stockon, it's a good pharm college.

your best bet is to actually look at the schools with pharmacology programs. each one will have prereqs and usually have profiles of the student classes from years before. Med school you better have a 3.5 at least, a lot of hours in research to show your dedicated. and a high mcat score. 3 friends from my school with good gpas and good mcat scores couldnt get into places and did some one year post bac program so that they could apply again next year.

and obviously where you take your classes will be important. competitive colleges are what they look for.

Ever thought of nursing school? I'm set to graduate in the fall.

It took about 3 years for pre-reqs, and its pretty hard to get into a school. But i'll be able to work anywhere and make bank.

But you gotta put in the work for sure. Countless late nights studying, all nighters every now and then, and thoughts of shooting everyone in sight, LOL. But you get used to it.

I believe a lot has to do with how well you do on the MCAT and PCAT, the entrance exams to get into those programs. I know with law school they do an index based on your LSAT and undergrad gpa.

Yeah, I've thought about it. I'm just starting so I'm trying not to get to set on anything. Just aim high but have a few back up plans.

Congrats BTW!

1. Major in Bio, and get good grades.
I'm probably going to major in chemistry only because Bio is the one class in high school I failed due to not putting any effort forward. I passed chem though.

2. Get good letters of Recs.
Don't know who I'd get them from, military people? I'll probably have to try and do some volunteer work at hospitals/pharmacies I guess.

3. Figure out schools
University of Washington ALL THE WAY!!!

4. Take the MCAT and do good (depending on how good of a school you wanna go to)
Yeah I've checked out a couple MCAT/PCAT study books.:paranoid::mad::ermm::hurt::eyecross::(:dead: That pretty much sums up my feelings towards those tests

5. Graduate and go into residency
YEAH! It will be a celebration at that time, and my name on here will be Dr. 1 Deep

6. Fuck bitches cuz ur a doctor nigga!
Duh, why do you think I'm trying to go this route. j/p but it will be nice to have that title. I just heard a dope ass saying about women that try and fuck/trap doctors. They're like bed pans: Shiny, full of shit, and best dumped. lol
Thanks for the outline. Peep the bold.
