Laptops are good now. Don't get roped into anything with a Pentium 4 or Celeron chip in it. They tryna clear the shelves of these obsolete chips. Anything with an Intel Core 2 Duo will be good. But be careful not to get a laptop with the first generation Dual Core chips in them. Those are called Core Duo. Notice the 2 missing. Dont get sucked with anything with a Pentium D in it. Yeah it's dual core..but it sucks. Dual core means two processor chips acting as one. So that should give you an idea of what a Quad Core can do. As far as features go that's up to you. Just don't order from an online retailer.

get an HP laptop or an Acer, those 2 are good. Toshibas are also good, gateways are lightweight.. some will work forever some will fuck up within a few weeks or months. Compaq is owned by HP so youre getting the same shit. Sony is overpriced. For the same price of a Mac notebook you can get a beast ass computer that would outperform it. You could probably get a quad-core enough to run a fuckin server on a laptop lol.

It's not about the brand name of the computer. It's about what's in it. That AMD Turion(whatever model#) for $800 was overpriced. Even for 2 months ago. But that's CostCo for ya.

Am I gonna be able to get a better deal than this:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2913283&Sku=G153-MX6956
I know it's refurbished and I know it's not Core 2 Duo, but it's still a pretty good deal. I need one for Serato. I have no problem with refurbished. I have a Dell monitor that's about 6 years old and it's still going strong.

I would wait 2 weeks or so. See what happens. NEVER buy a refurbished laptop or the floor model. You can get a NEW one for the price of the refurbished one you linked too. What computer stores are in your area?

If it's a dual core cpu...then measuring performance in terms of GHZ is is misleading. You can have a 1.6ghz Pentium 4 and a 1.6 ghz Core 2 Duo and the perfomance of the Core 2 will be much different. L2 cache on the chip plays a very big part in performance.

Usually only the seller of laptops (Dell, HP) can do replacment of hardware in laptops OTHER than RAM or maybe the HDD. You do NOT want to pop open your laptop and just start fuckin with it...there isa very good chance you will fuck it up.

to answer your question NO. if you have an old computer. your motherboard probably not support these chips or the type of RAM or amount of RAM required to run them.

not true, some have shitty ass LCDs, depends on the drives it comes with, how the chassis is built and how close/far apart everything is. You could have some overheating issues or some malfunctions. I been building computers for a little over 5 years now. I figured i atleast somewhat know what im talking about.
