We’ve been able to confirm via two sources the names of the rookies who were involved in a symposium slugfest.

The players were Aqib Talib and Cory Boyd. Talib was a first-round pick of the Buccaneers; Boyd was a seventh-round selection of the same team.

The players were in a budget and finances meeting, where rookies from four teams were gathered. Talib and Boyd had been jawing at each other for a while, and it came to a head during that specific session.

Few are surprised by the development. Boyd was suspended by South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier in 2005. Boyd was forced to apologize upon returning in 2006, after scoring a touchdown and uttering for the camera, “I’m back! I’m back liked cooked crack.

Talib’s draft stock fell due to repeated positive drug test results while at Kansas. As one league source explained Talib to us on Wednesday night, “Trouble just follows Talib. . . . He can’t help himself, and it’s never his fault.”

It’s unknown whether the players were or will be disciplined.
HUR-RAY FOR MIKE JENKINS!

Mike Jenkins is good, yes.

but

when Talib is on his game, dude is like flies on Ethiopian kids good. He is going to be good for years if he actually takes in everything that Barber teaches him, and doesnt piss it away like hes the next coming of Deion Sanders his first couple of seasons down there. He is definately going to make the #1 pass defense in the league last season even better, believe that.

here is what Barber had to say about Talib awhile back....

Furthermore, the Bucs added a talented young corner in the first round of this year’s draft in Aqib Talib.

“He’s big and long,” Barber said of the rookie. “[He faces] a little bit of a learning curve, but he’s got [instincts], very good ball skills and I look forward to working with him.

“He fits right into our room too. There are a lot of personalities, led by our loquacious DB coach Raheem, so it keeps it nice and loose for him and he fits in well.”

I would have to say he is in the drivers seat to possibly a pro bowl type caliber of a player for years to come if he can play up to his talents and unreached full potential he has waiting to come out.

this little scuffle doesnt bother me at all, i mean they both have strong personalities n' all, but isn't that what you want to look for in a cornerback? a lil' cockiness.

fisher spoke of some of the titans mishaps at the rookie symposium

He used several other examples from his own team to illustrate the various ways an NFL player can be thrown off his game. Fisher shared stories about:

» An unnamed player who, in 1994, admitted to having a gun that he considered using while being robbed at gunpoint by two men at his apartment. Fisher had the player turn the gun over to him. A year later, the player was released and six months after that, he wound up in jail because a firearm discharged in his apartment during an altercation.

» A "dumb" receiver on his team (Brandon Jones) who was recently arrested at Nashville International Airport for having a loaded firearm in a carry-on bag. Jones said he forgot that he had left the handgun in the bag when packing. "You know what he has to do?" Fisher told the rookies. "He has to make three court appearances between the middle of August and Oct. 1. Now what kind of distraction do you think that's going to be for him?"

» An unnamed player who, after violating the league's substance-abuse policy, decided to retire because he could no longer handle the humiliation of being subjected to repeated screening. "If you get caught, you are going to be subject to reasonable-cause testing," Fisher said. "Guess what? You are going to be naked ... three times a week with the collector. (The player) missed the tests and was tired of taking the tests, so he left."

» An unnamed player who became so overwhelmed from the stress over his family's demands on his finances he actually told Fisher at halftime of a game that he didn't want to play in the second half. "His family was in for the holidays and they were having money meetings because the family wasn't getting enough money," the coach said. "Family, friends, and finances. It's not a good combination. You need help. Find a professional. It's okay to take care of mama. She raised you. She stood by you your whole life. Get her the Escalade, but guess what? On Friday before a big game she's going to decide she wants a different color Escalade NOW! And you can't tell her no. So get somebody qualified to say no to those things (on your behalf)."

» A player on the street right now (former Bills, Titans, and Broncos running back Travis Henry) with eight kids from eight different mothers.

» An unnamed special-teams player who, soon after learning he had paid $90,000 in child support for a baby that DNA testing proved wasn't his, lost control during a game in Cleveland. "There's some pushing and shoving around the pile, and he snaps," Fisher recalled. "He's got a lot on his mind. He's hurting inside. He kicks a guy in the head and he's ejected from the ballgame. Now he's paying additional money in a league fine for being kicked out of a ballgame. The club also fined him."

i went to Univ of South Florida and I am a season ticket holder there.....Mike Jenkins is the TRUTH. Cowboys will be very happy with that pick. Plus, he is a great kickoff returner as well.

Talib>Jenkins

not by a lot but just ahead of him, hopefully Barber can tap into his head and make him a every year pro bowler all the time in the future...he has the skills to make it happen, its just the fact that he has a good teacher to show him the dos n' donts of being a complete player.

oh and.....

Im gonna have to say Gore is the better back between the two of them....Barber and Gore ya know. Thats of right now though....i want to see what Barber can do as a starter for an entire season before i pass judgement here....but for now Gore is alot better then Barber.

fuck Gore too.
