Why would someone who isn't Black say "nigga"? What do you get out of it by sayin' it?

I probably can't speak for the non-blacks. But i've noticed that a lot of blacks are now setting trends these days. So that word is very "trendy". Like another "slang" word.

Trendy? Slang word?

I don't agree. I think some people just wanna jump on the bandwagon. They feel like "Hey, they say it to each other, so why can't we say it too?"

Trendy? Not hardly
Slang? Somewhat

My original question still stands. Why would someone who isn't Black use the word "nigga"?

I don't know about that. I've been in other forums that asked that same question over and over with different responses with diff ppl. You may not agree with the "trendy" part. But that's just what I think. They see some of us [black ppl] say it, and use it as a slang or replacement of the word... "dawg", "homie", and others. We set most of the popular trendy words [bling bling] like that and countless other words. Yes, you are right, others might jump on the bandwagon, but we all pick up on slang words. When we choose to go trendy, we are actually jumping on the bandwagon whether we want to say it or not. We choose whether to use them or not. Depending on how our personality is. I'm not going to sit there and say "nigga" all the time, because that's not my style. There are so many reasons why they could say it. But it narrows down to [choice], because they can say it. There isn't a law against that word [Nigga]. But i'll let a non-black person answer it if you still don't agree.

Ten: I am glad that you noticed the cliche in my last post. I am the master of my own destiny, but as for the "in" word, I use it accordigly to those who I know it will not offend. I used to not even say the word before I moved down south; I used to say "Nahgha." I have tried to switch up from using the term, like substitutin the word 'nijah' or 'rilla' instead, but peeps dont feel that word down hear all they understand is "aye nicka"
and plus, if you dont already know, when whitefolx get around one another all they do is try to be down with the 'in' crowd and call eachother niggers like it's the thang to do...yeenknow?
to understand the reverse racism part is look at history and who the real 'niggards' were, and then you'll know what's really goin on.

I gotta agree, a lot of white folks do it to be "down" and I can see how a lot fall into using the word. Like me, I'm white, I listen to rap, I hear the word "nigga" used 400000 times on an album, but yet I don't use the word cuz not only do I think its wrong for someone who isn't black to say it, I think its flat out corny as fuck. I mean ive had black people call me "nigga" and other non blacks "nigga"... I look at em like "are you stupid?". I think its cool to incorporate different cultures into your life, it leads to less ignorance and racism, but you gotta know where to draw the line. somepeople don't see the line, or dont care that its there....

first off, i'm not a "dawg", just as i would not call you a "nigga". I'm a female also. and you have to learn that before you tell me anything.

i do agree with you on some, but you misunderstood what i was saying. Blacks are using the N word trendy these days. I only say that because I being black does not use that word. My other friends do, because its a slang for [dawg, potna] ish like that. You think back in the days blacks were going to use that word and embrace it? nope. A lot of blacks use it because they changed the meaning of it. so a lot of other people will say it's a "trend or new kind of slang". Just like other blacks used [jive] back in the days for different things. Please don't misunderstand this too. ;)

Look we can keep going back and back in time.. who created the guitar? was that black people too!?!?!?! you could even say country kinda led to rock. Here's my issue tho, your saying white people stole rock from blacks... so your saying groups like metalica stole their style from blacks? hell no, rock is a very broad type of music. not one person, not one race created it...

I'm not gonna come on hear and say shit like "blacks stole baseball, football, and basketball from whites" cuz that shit would be ignorant as hell, ain't no one STEALING anything...

I hate to break it to you, but Black people invented Rock N Roll. Black musicians like Bo Diddley, Fat Domino, Little Richards, and Chuck Berry created Rock N Roll if you don't know..

"But the point is, rock 'n' roll is an art form that was created by blacks. "It started out as rhythm and blues," says Little Richard, the flamboyant rock pioneer who saw such tumultuous songs of his as Tutti Frutti and Long Tall Sally taken to the charts in white-bread "cover" versions by the likes of Pat Boone. "There wasn't nobody playing it at the time but black people--myself, Fats Domino, Chuck Berry. White kids started paying more attention to this music, white girls were going over to this music, they needed somebody to come in there--like Elvis."

Pretty much since then, black artists who wanted to play rock 'n' roll--as opposed to pop, or doo-wop, or soul music, or funk, or disco, or rap--have had a hard time getting a hearing from the music industry, which, thanks to its perceived marketing needs, tends to pigeonhole artists in "black" and "white" slots. The irony, of course, is that while white artists like the Rolling Stones are exalted for their borrowings from black music, black artists who try to reclaim the now predominantly white classic-rock tradition are often met with industry indifference, if not hostility."

More knowledge for Snubnoze

"Rock n' Roll/Blues has it's earliest roots in two or three sources. The first and probably the most important and direct of these is the early music of slaves and sharecroppers in the plantations of the deep south, particularly in Mississipi. It has even been suggested that one town, Cleveland Ms. may be the exact birthplace of the blues itself. The blues got its sound from the solemn songs of old farmhands (mostly african-americans) as they toiled in the cotton fields, put to guitar and harmonica music by such masters as Charley Patton, the first blues star ever (ca. 1922)."

Charlie Christian elevated the guitar as a lead instrument on par with the saxophone and trumpet in jazz and popular music. His single-string technique established a solo style that was carried on by such contemporaries as T-Bone Walker and emulated by later disciples like B.B. King and Chuck Berry. Born in Dallas, Texas, on July 29th, 1919, and raised in Oklahoma City, Christian was influenced by country music and jazz, an odd hybrid of influences that can be heard in his recorded works, such as "Seven Come Eleven," with the Benny Goodman Sextet. Unfortunately, his recording career lasted less than two years, as he was brought down in his prime by tuberculosis, dying on March 2, 1942, in New York. Though his life was short, his hornlike, single-note style, which capitalized on innovations in amplification technology, revolutionized and redefined the role of the electric guitar in popular music. The reverberations from Christian's pioneering efforts have echoed down the decades, through Western swing, rockabilly and rock and roll to the present day.

read my previous post. I'm not trying to take anything away from blacks don't get me wrong they had a huge influence on american culter. All I'm sayin is the whole "rock" industry we have today can't be credited just to blacks. "rock n roll" is a very vague discription for that type of music, cuz their is a very large diversity of rock music. We can keep goin back and back. Who created all the instruments that made it possible to create this music? you can't say whites TOOK rock music from blacks thats rediculous. you can say Blacks played a large part in the creation of rock music and I could agree with that easily.
