Male 18-34 demos are huge. But only if you are a rock format.
As for the programming...it makes perfect sense to go straight at Z90...that's the only way to win. Local artists being played was not the reason why that version of More FM failed. It also has to do with bad programming altogether. They would play 4 new records in a row. That's bad programming. They would play four old records in a row. That is also bad programming. The reason the bosses are called Program Directors is because they literally have to pick the hottest records and run them every hour and a half plus know which older and newer joints to throw in and where. Radio for ratings is a science. More FM had zero rhyme or reason to the programming and that's why it sucked. Watch this new format...I guarantee with their new PD and staff you'll see them really give Z a run for their money...
thanks...im a marketer myself but i dont know shit about the radio business obviously...and honestly i almost never caught the station just because im out of the habit to listening to music on the radio(i only listen to Howard Stern)
so from what i gather the black and hispanic young male demo is not at all sought after because we are all broke or in jail *rolls eyes at advertisers*
sounds like this station was more unorganized than anything else...as you can tell im happily out of touch with "whats hot" when it comes to what used to be "our" music(i understand the economics behind it but the fact that females have become the only important listeners in music, (rock stations arent exactly blowing people away either) makes me nauseous)...im starting to think that good music is all but doomed and i dont care what kinda music you like...when the corps get together with the labels and decide that only young minority women matter with urban music and only soccer moms and there daughters matter with top40 and or country and stop putting money into any other possible audience(the white guys shock jock radio but thats not actual music either) we are all in serious trouble
Sarge i know you are within the industry and see it purely from an economical standpoint but do you see how infinitely destructive this is for good music?
