I had heard that 98.9 More FM in San Diego had been bought out and their playlist was changed to fit the usual format. So, as I got it confirmed, the homie Angel from WCRydaz posted this:

They got bought off and I don't blame it on the buyer, blame it on the seller. Dude sold out, he didn't even know how much he was helping underground artist. All day you could hear: Mitchy Slick, Jayo Felony, Bad Azz, Damu, Mr. Lil-One, Shysti, Mr. Shadow, Knightowl, Lil' Rob, Psycho Realm, Cypress Hill, Damizza, as well as Kurupt, Daz, old Snoop Dogg, WSC, Ice Cube, WC, Knocturnal, Roscoe, Quik, E-40, Sly Boogy, Guerilla Black, and so on, were also on heavy rotation.

Now all you hear is Usher, Lil' Jon, Ciara, Nelly, and shit they never played before.

i've personaly talked to their dj's like billy blast, seize, and yesi ortiz. they told me they arnt even allowed to play what they want and that every complaint they get they record it and show it to management in hopes that they will change back. so its not their fault.

I thank Angel for the info and the write up. This was one of the few media outlets that showed love to the West Coast and now it's gone. We urge you to call and complain. They were starting a trend and it got cut short. Call! E-Mail! Anything!

"i'll tell you guys what really happened...it was not sold or bought or anything...the sames faggot ass owner still owns it, but he treated people like sh*t so i quit, the program director quit, the music director quit, kandi vega quit, ...etc....that station is wack...even dj seize quit, but then he went crawling back like a punk-ass chump...he's a bitch...we are no longer affiliated and i will slap him like a bitch if i ever see him...so....everyone threatened to quit if sh*t didn't get better...sh*t got worse and we quit...now they brought in new people and they all suck...they changed the music and everything...f**k them and everyone affiliated with them...

we will start doing regular riverbottom radio shows again soon...right now the studio is down cause we moved, but we will start soon...thanks for the support...as far as radio goes...we have some tricks up our sleeves...the PD, MD and me will back on the air soon...a new station...don't trip,.... Getting gangster over radio and calling people punk bitches is stupid (in reference to people hatin' on Seize for wanting a radio career). If it don't make dollars, it don't make sense. Period point blank, from a radio perspective More FM would never make enough money to survive. You have to play music that has a mainstream, mass appeal and video support to survive. Radio is about MASS APPEAL...it's for Letecia, the single female with 3 kids who wants to sing the hook to the next Ja Rule single, not hear MC No Name speak on real gangster shit. It's no disrespect to MC No Name, it's just the reality of the game.

YEAH THAT'S TRUE, THEY HAVE TO PLAY ALL THE MAINSTREAM SHIT TO KEEP UP WITH THE OTHER STATIONS THAT THEY ARE IN COMPETITION WITH. BUT THE FUCKED UP PART IS THEY ALWAYS SAY "WE ARE THE PEOPLE'S STATION" AND ALL THAT OTHER FALSE PROPAGANDA AS THEIR MOTTOS AND SLOGANS BUT THEY NEVER PLAY WHAT THE PEOPLE WANT TO HEAR.

NAW, THEY WERE ACTUALLY STILL PLAYING MORE OF THAT 106 N PARK SHIT THAN THE LOCAL/UNDERGROUND SHIT, BUT IT WAS BETTER THAN NOTHING. THE LISTENERS JUST HAD TO WORK WITH WHAT THEY WERE GIVEN AND IT WAS STILL COOL TO LISTEN TO.

im curious to see what thier ratings were. @ sergeant hustle, you used to work for z90 right? how does all that rating shit work? i wonder how z90 was affected when 98.9 jumped on the scene.....and that shit that shysti said about sieze, i could understand where he is coming from..it sounds like all the employee's got together and told management to shape up or thier shipping out, then sieze turned his back on them. dont get me wrong a job is a job...but dont say something if you dont mean it

Great to see what IMHO is the true San Diego Station on the top of the ratings. Especially since KIFM initiated the Smooth Jazz format right here in America's Finest City, it can truly be considered as a true San Diego sound.

US-95 and KSON continue their back and forth battle. Will either ever really win or will they both continue to battle it outside of the Top 10. Poor KSON, what once was mighty has fallen, Part 1.

And the other Jefferson-Pilot / Clear Channel battle with KBZT and 91-X scores another win for JP. Poor 91-X, what once was mighty has fallen, Part 2.

Z-90 is getting gnarled on by this pit chihuaua. Ay Carumba!! More-FM remains steady as Jammin steadily drops. Poor Jammin Z-90, what once was mighty has fallen, Part 3.

And what's up with XTRA Sports? Depending upon which website you visit they are either a no show, or might as well be a no show!! (They appear in the ratings at Inside Radio, but are not listed at Radio and Records.. Anyone no why?) What once was is now Mighty.

the 98.9 staff from what i heard....many of them were unhappy...and some left for z90...and certain members of the staff were threatening to do bodily harm to them, etc. because they were leaving More FM for Z. I left Z for my own reasons and am much happier now.

as for the ratings...z90 did eat shit after i and the morning host left. but it was not at the hands of More FM...rather Channel 933....More FM perhaps took a lil' bite out of Z, but not enough to send it into the downward spiral that it is now. More FM never cracked a 2.0 share. take a look at the ratings for yourself. there is no money to be made when you are rockin a 1.8. these are ratings over time. i hated working for z90, but i would never have gone across the street to More FM...i knew they'd never win. only now do they have a chance.
