I'm sorry Y'all, but I have to dissent.
Yes, rappers and Oprah probably both came up from poverty. However, she was a great outlet for the injustice of Katrina, and anybody making the money she is has got to have her shit together. Rappers, on the other hand, may come from poverty, but generally promote a message of drugs, sex, violence, and debauchery. I may catch flak for saying this, but it is true. So, compare Oprah, a woman who helps many people, and is pushing a POSITIVE message, one of hope, civility, education, social reform, POSITIVE things. Rappers on the other hand, claim that their raps are akin to "dope" and that we the public are fiends for their music. Then they rap about all the material items THEY have, supposedly making them better than us. Rap is all about bragadocious, how they are better than us. Yeah, they might rap about some social reform, but most of the songs on a rap album will be directed towards negativity.
Does anyone in here think 50 cent is contributing to society more than Oprah? I say hell no, negativity only promotes negativity. Having 15 songs on the album about crack selling, violence, fucking bitches, and then ONE song about making the ghetto a better place, the overwhelming message is that of negativity, of crime, of keeping the poor satiated and in their place. Oprah gets the nod any day.
