50 Cent Sounds Off About Oprah Winfrey

By ERIN CARLSON

NEW YORK (AP) - He usually saves his beefs for other rappers; this time, 50 Cent is going after Oprah Winfrey.

In an interview with The Associated Press, 50 complained that Winfrey rarely invites rappers on her talk show: ``I think she caters to older white women.''

``Oprah's audience is my audience's parents,'' the 29-year-old rapper said. ``So, I could care less about Oprah or her show.''

He's not alone in his resentment toward the talk show host cum media mogul.

Rapper-actor Ludacris, aka Chris Bridges, said in the May issue of GQ magazine that Winfrey was ``unfair'' during a show he appeared on last October with co-stars from best-picture Oscar winner ``Crash.''

``She edited out a lot of my comments while keeping her own in,'' he said. ``Of course, it's her show, but we were doing a show on racial discrimination, and she gave me a hard time as a rapper, when I came on there as an actor.''

Winfrey's representative at her production company, Harpo, told the AP that Winfrey was unavailable for comment.

But, as 50 Cent said, Winfrey's purported disapproval might enhance a rap star's street cred.

``I'm actually better off having friction with her,'' he said.

The crack-dealer-turned-rapper has sold millions of records gleefully flaunting his gangsta image, explicit lyrics and bulletproof vest (he was famously shot nine times). He has his own record label, G-Unit, the G-Unit clothing line, his own sneaker line with Reebok and a videogame, ``Bulletproof.''

And he wears his rough-and-tumble reputation proudly: ``I don't mind it. I've actually accepted it.''

The rapper, who's signed to close pal Eminem's Shady/Aftermath label under Interscope Records, said he recently attended Proof's wake with Eminem. Proof, a friend of Eminem's, was shot and killed earlier this month during a dispute in a Detroit nightclub.

``He's coming along,'' he said of Eminem. ``He's gonna be all right. I mean, it was definitely a big loss for him. Proof was actually his best friend in the world from forever.''

On the heels of Proof's death, a study released last week by the Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation - a nonprofit public health research group - suggested that young people who listen to rap music are more prone to alcohol and drug use and aggressive behavior.

But 50's not buying it.

He points a finger at parents, who he thinks should explain to their children that his music is a form of entertainment, not a license to break the law.

``I think that the violence that happened to Proof and the violence that's happening across America right now has nothing to do with hip-hop,'' he said. ``It has something to do with the people - the state of them - and the music doesn't alter that.''

Mayne i have much respect for Oprah, i never really watched her show except maybe when she first came on i seen a few, but recently i have peeped some of them and i got to say she does a lot to help a lot of people in this world, in other countries, people really in need. She stands up for injustice when no one else will, she will go after school systems and she initiates changes, she is one person that actually has power to make changes in this country, her and Bill Gates together could be unstoppable. She just standing by her principles. If 50 says its just entertainment, then why he got to use violence? If he just want to entertain, do some song and dance type shit and stop whining.

Its sad that anyone would knock oprah..so what if she dont like rap music or rappers, come on 50cent are you a role model? ludacris you aint a role model either...why would she want a rapper on her show anyways...lif aint bout rap music, oprah has a differnt show then the geraldo,maury,montell......rappers are mad cause they feel that they should be in the spotlight and every show should want them on so they can promote there albums...Im not saying she should have no rappers on her show, but it would have to make sense....i remeber skipping through the channels and oprah was on....she gave everyone in the audience a brand new car, Im sure if a rapper did a substantial amount of charity events and donated much time and money then there might be a good reason to have them on the show...until then they will be on mtv cribs showing all the shit they buy....Its funny when you see a charity event and a rapper donates $10,000 - $20,000 when you know they good for at least $100,000 donation....

I'm sorry Y'all, but I have to dissent.
Yes, rappers and Oprah probably both came up from poverty. However, she was a great outlet for the injustice of Katrina, and anybody making the money she is has got to have her shit together. Rappers, on the other hand, may come from poverty, but generally promote a message of drugs, sex, violence, and debauchery. I may catch flak for saying this, but it is true. So, compare Oprah, a woman who helps many people, and is pushing a POSITIVE message, one of hope, civility, education, social reform, POSITIVE things. Rappers on the other hand, claim that their raps are akin to "dope" and that we the public are fiends for their music. Then they rap about all the material items THEY have, supposedly making them better than us. Rap is all about bragadocious, how they are better than us. Yeah, they might rap about some social reform, but most of the songs on a rap album will be directed towards negativity.

Does anyone in here think 50 cent is contributing to society more than Oprah? I say hell no, negativity only promotes negativity. Having 15 songs on the album about crack selling, violence, fucking bitches, and then ONE song about making the ghetto a better place, the overwhelming message is that of negativity, of crime, of keeping the poor satiated and in their place. Oprah gets the nod any day.

let's say, how about, for example, you, ra$an, you're a positive straight up black role model AND a rapper.....and oprah hears your name, and guess what? she'll prolly still dislike you...

she dislikes rappers, mayne, i don't think it matters whether positive or negative....

Lol, yeah

In fact i don't think they're "trying" to promote negativity or whatever...they're really not...just think bout it....most rappers just speak from experience.....and therefore, they've had negative experiences/past...you can't just rap about something fake, right? Like you can't just rap about something like that you've been happy all your life when you wasn't, etc. etc. It's hella stupid to speak out fake words. Sure, "In Da Club" involves sex, drugs, etc but it's just a club/party song. Are we not allowed to make party/club songs? And funny thing Oprah can't understand that. But you know what? 50 Cent's right, fuck her. It's her opinion, her own shit, meh. You know there are other legit shows where you can freely to speak for yourself. Oprah can't be just real.
