University of Wisconsin-Madison's Hip Hop Generation presents... the 4th Annual HIP HOP AS A MOVEMENT conference!

*Keynote address by Dick Gregory!

This year's theme is anti-militarism and will feature discussion panels, workshops, film screenings, art exhibitions, performances, and more.

Discussion panels will scrutinize issues such as the unwarranted targeting of our youth by military recruitment officials, hypocrisy within patriotism, gentrification, and the invasive nature of law enforcement.

*Confirmed panelists include: Hip Hop historian Davey D, Ernie Panicolli (author of Who Shot Ya), AWOL's Mario Africa, and Charlie Ahearn (of Wild Style and Yes Yes, Y'all), Kahlil Jacobs, Billy Uspki Wimsatt, and Cristina Veran.

*Confirmed artists include: Smiff N Wessun, Buckshot, Sean Price, DJ Evil Dee, Rise & Shine, Wordsworth, Pri the Honey Dark, Rhymesayers, Immortal Tecknique, DJ Kuttin Kandi, and DJ G Brown.

Civil Rights Legend Dick Gregory, Other Activists & Artists, To Address Fourth Annual “Hip Hop As A Movement” Conference.

Human rights anti-war activist and comedian legend Dick Gregory will deliver the keynote speech to open the fourth annual “Hip Hop Generation-Hip Hop As A Movement” Conference, April 11-13, 2003 at the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus.

Gathering under the banner of Peace and Anti-Militarism, the weekend event will feature panels, strategy sessions, and performances. The conference will also feature panels on the “Gentrification of Hip Hop” and “Hip Hop and Prophecy” in addition to film screenings and exhibitions.

Dick Gregory will give the keynote address on Friday, April 11th. In the tradition of his work with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and social justice movements, Gregory joins the event in its call for peace and an end to inequality at home.

Other confirmed panelists and performers include Smiff N Wessun (Rawkus/MCA), Buckshot, DJ Evil Dee, and Sean Price aka Ruck of Duck Down Records, Charlie Ahearn (Wild Style), Mario Africa (Move/AWOL Magazine), Billy “Upski” Wimsatt, Ernie Paniciolli, Eyedea feat. Bro.
