When he apologized over the phone I asked if he had social issues. He went about saying "It's not even that, you just don't even know" and began talking about his parents being split and elaborating on the lies he's mentioned.

That also is quite possibly be bullshit. I checked Facebook on my alternate account, saw his mother and father both have their relationship status to married, and both have pictures together on their page.
