Crt. Still waiting for HD to drop in price.
hey i suggest you look at Visio televisions. my dad bought a 46 inch lcd with built in hdtv capabilities, for pretty cheap ill ask him for the price later. The hdtv capabilities are built in so no extra 300 dollar adapter and i believe they got into some sort of pricing issue and their prices are dramatically lower than many other companies. Looked at customer satisfaction comments and almost all were extremely happy, id say look into it because my dad was in the same spot you were.

I got the lcd hdtv i try to play on as much as i can but its up stairs so i dont as much as i wish i could, so i am usually on C-RT.

I'm thinkin about getting me one of these http://www.buy.com/prod/Samsung_LNS...000_1_contrast_ratio/q/loc/273/202516748.html

40" HDTV LCD Samsung. $1035 shipped, no taxes? 3000:1 contrast ratio.

Or a 46" Sony Bravia U-series for $1750. Only 1300:1 contrast ratio.

Decisions, decisions. Both are 1080i, I really want a 1080p. How long do y'all think stations will broadcast in 1080p? And HD dvd players that I've seen only go up to 1080i.

if you got the money to buy a 1080p tv then buy it becuase technology (tv broadcasts, etc) will catch up to the tv. buy a 1080i max tv then you will have to spend money down the road to catch up to technology. but the different between 720p and 1080p isnt really noticable to most. unless you tv is well over 40 inches.

hd-dvd players or blu ray players will display movies in 1080p.

the sony's contrast ratio is lower but for some reason there picture is just as good if not better. before you buy a tv online or whereever, go to the store and compare the model you want to buy with others by it.

I don't necessarily have the money yet to get a 1080p, I'm thinkin next year and it'll drop a good 500. The question is how long until companies start broadcasting in 1080p? And if they do, can a 1080i receive the signal or does the HDTV have to be in 1080p? I'm assuming no since you said I'll have to spend extra dough to get it.

I'm really considering the 46in Sony Bravia, it's clearly the better picture, but the thing is it has a light sensor and it automatically adjusts the picture for you by sensing the lighting in the room. Maybe that's why it looks better than others. And I can get it for a killer price. I'm just kinda weary cuz I could probably get a 46in 1080p bravia (v-series) next year and when 1080p broadcasting goes into effect.

Btw, I talked to a Sony rep and she said to buy a Sony Bravias in May or July, cuz that's when the new models are going to replace the older ones and you can get it for cheaps.

good think'n my lcd goes up to 1080i not bad since alot of the hdtv's nowdays are 720p for the price. i use a monitor hookup with monster cables from hdmi to dvi. it looks great way better than any of my (possible) hook ups.

i suggest you wait till may like he said and cop the 1080p. all you need is hdmi you'll be straight cause it does'nt get any higher than that.

you don't need to worry about upgrading after that you'll have 480,720 and 1080 all wrapped into one. 1080p at the highest.

The sharp is a pretty good tv, thanks for the link, I'm going to have to consider it. Downside is the contrast ratio is 1200:1. I don't mess with westinghouse tho, I know a lot of people got them but I'm skeptical of off brands.

yeah but newer models got better picture and better options, but if it being new model or not doesnt matter then yeah get one in june. HD broadcasts are barely reaching 720p right now, its giong to be at least a year to see a 1080p HD show, and probably a good 2 years before a couple of of channels use 1080p reguglary. but when it does happen its nice to know you are ready for it.

1080i is not the same as 1080p, 1080p is the best on the market. lots of people and experts agree that 720p is better then 1080i.

its different tho with lcd, its technology thats been around for years (at least 7 years) so companies know how to produce them effiencely already. if you get a plasma which is a rather new technology there are a lot of off brands that suck at making them. but not as much as lcd. and its not westinghouses first generation of lcd tvs. so they learned from their first couple of generations if they had any mess ups.

but sony is way over priced for what you get, you are payin for the sony logo on the tv more then the options, features. read the customer reviews on those links for the tv.

or check out www.avsforum.com and see what they say about certain tv models.
