he's not gonna hit no bombs out of the park, but its a good guy to have up there with people on base, or a guy to get on base..

is it just me or does Sabean look like the old guy in Big Daddy that adam sandler catches fuckin his girl? lol

^^^he does, haha...and sanchez is an instant upgrade at second base and at least we have a legit player there now...alderson for him though? only time will tell how it pans out. Giants felt they had to something, and this is it. Hopefully its the push they need to get to the playoffs.


i dont agree with trading away prospects but i dont think its all that lopsided...definitely no Joe nathan/francisco liriano for aj pierzynski (worst trade of all time)

we still have a chance for willingham, i'd gladly trade pucetas for him. but the nats could be interested in other guys as well. AA and A

alderson hasnt thrown 1 pitch in the majors. maybe the giants know something we dont. bowker hits .400 with 9,000 homers in aaa ball, comes up and cant do shit. some guys are minor league lifers.... who knows at this point. lets just stay positive and see how it pans out.

im glad we swept the pirates, and now the real test starts... philly is in town!

i think the pirates are expected to have cash considerations for sanchez. Giving up Alderson is a lot, but we dont know how its gonna turn out. Sometimes sacrifices need to be made for now, and this may be one of those.

there is still is a chance tho, theyd rather have something than nothing. pucetas is a guy with value along with some other guys that arent untouchable like madbum, angel, and buster.


and i really dont expect alderson to be great in the majors, he is similar to pucetas with weak stuff. but alderson did have high value, so we coulda got a little better than sanchez but really how much better? we needed a 2nd baseman, now we got a great guy.

Contract details:

Freddy Sanchez
2 years/$11M (2008-09), plus 2010 club option

  • re-signed by Pittsburgh 2/5/08 (avoided arbitration, $4.9M-$4.1M)
  • $0.3M signing bonus
  • 08:$4M, 09:$6.1M, 10:$8M club option ($0.6M buyout)
  • 2010 club option guaranteed with 635 PAs in 2009 or 600 PAs and All Star selection in 2009
  • base salary for 2010 option may increase by $0.5M ($0.1M each for 1) 650 PAs in 2008, 2) 650 PAs in 2009, 3) All Star in 2008, 4) All Star in 2009, or 5) Gold Glove or Silver Slugger in 2008 or 2009
  • performance bonuses: $25,000 each for All Star, Gold Glove, WS MVP; $0.125M for MVP ($75,000 for 2nd in vote, $50,000 for 3rd)

We been dying for a second basemen for a while. Now I think it was s decent trade. I kno Alderson might be a future star, but didnt we say the samething about ainsworth,williams,foppert. Think Sabean did the right thing. We still got Bummy.
