So I've been looking forward to Koda Kumi's new album for quite some time. Although after hearing ballad after ballad (stay with me, moon crying, winter bell) I didn't really know what to expect.

01. INTRODUCTION TO TRICK

9/10 This is just a bouncy little tune that sets the pace of the album well. I really like it, too bad it's not a full song.

02. Taboo

8/10 Kinky, funky, lesbian love song. I've been listening to this one for a while.

03. Show Girl

8/10 Another really groovy song, lots of bounce and sex. A lot of changes in the beat and over all just a lot of fun. "Bounce with me, Bounce with me!"

04. Your Love

8/10 Ballad Mode. This is one of the tracks that leaked so I can't get so excited for it. However it's around this point that I realize that one of the reasons that Koda is one of my favorite artists, her music always makes me happy. A feel good song.

05. Stay With Me

8.5/10 Ballad #2. A very big song, lots of emotion and deepness. very sad. While this doesn't really reach the level of "Wind" it comes close.

06. This is Not a Love Song

9/10 Uptempo, sexy, bass heavy. Kind of tune that you can listen to again and again. One of my favorites.

07. Driving

9.5/10 My absolute favorite song on the album. This song just screams "play me loud and dance" it's kind of hard to describe, it's just awesome! Songs like sex, like sex.

08. Bling Bling Bling (Featuring AK-69)

8/10 KK definitely went in a different direction here. It's almost like a wicked little chant. "Baby, All I want is a Bling Bling Bling and to come come up off a...". The radio leak was really shitty quality so it's nice to finally hear this song in good quality. AK-69's verse really sucks but it doesn't take much away from the song.

09. That Ain't Cool (Featuring Fergie)

6 or 7/10 Really I've never cared much for this song. It doesn't help that it's rather old compared to the rest of this material. Fergie is a horrible artist, the hook is okay at best, the beat is alright, only redeeming factor is Ku's english verse.

10. Hurry Up!

8/10 Funky song mode again! Do I need to say more. This song has a really good rhythm and the singing on it is sweet. Hook could be a little better but is pact with energy. The verses are were this song really shines.

11. Moon Crying

7.5/10 This is a very powerful song and when it came out as a single it was a real big deal. If you've ever seen Hero the fact that the song is called "Moon Crying" really gives a bit of thought to that movie. There is a lot of emotion in this track but it just doesn't catch my ear like some of the others. Maybe it's just a bit too slow.

12. JUST THE WAY YOU ARE

8.5/10 Finally, a middle ground. Not a ballad, not a funk concoction but something somewhere in the middle. It sounds great too.

13. Joyfull

9/10 See above but slightly better. Just makes you feel great. (this was the last of the leaked tracks)

14. 愛のことば

9/10 A final ballad to close things with. This one is a bit easier to listen to than the others, probably the best on the album. A vibrantly beautiful song. Great guitar work. Epic ending.

15. Venus (Bonus Track)

8/10 You've heard this before, however Ku-chan's version is much better than the crappy commercial. Fits in nice with the rest of the album. "She's got it... yea baby she's got it!!! I'm your venus, I'm your fire, your desire!!!"

SO im just curious...what separates this from the Fergie's and Riahana's of the US? Her music just sounds like pop/dance music...nothing more. Not to mention, she uses her sex to sell records, just like Brittany did and Madonna before her. After listening to her album, I am not quite sure why you find her music so engaging, when I couldnt tell her apart from Fergie had she been singing in English. Not knocking your taste, just my observation.

well this album is kind of a big change in sound so it wouldn't be fair to judge her as whole from just this release and actually you're right. I mean she is a pop star and despite a different region of the world, the basis of a pop star is fairly the same. i don't know what it is that draws me in so much, her music just makes me happy when i listen to it. I mean I guess the best way to tell the difference between her and the other pop artist you named would be to watch a complete concert from both, that's where the notable difference really shows.

i like maroon 5 and a few other pop bands so it's not like this is a first. plus considering how my first exposure to her music was through a video game, it kind of caters more to my audience than say fergie.

Its a phenomenon in which anything from Japan is instantly given more credibility

A rose by any other name would smell as sweet, but a rose name Sukata HeeHee Let's Play a Rose! is so much sweeter
