Chargers started hydrating and getting treatment early in the week in anticipation. Also, going with the road white jerseys and making Seattle wear the dark jerseys helped a bit too.
I really thought it was interesting that caroll didn't adjust during the game. Defensively they kept trying to cover gates with a safety or linebacker, instead of double teaming like most teams. Gates has a bad hamstring by the way and 2 our better defensive players (flowers, Johnson) were out for the game.

Kam looked bad on Sunday as well. He was not wrapping on tackles and was getting beat by Gates. That why they took him off and put KJ on him. Didnt help. However, he made two very good catches that most players would have no business making.
Bottom line, Game plan + heat = disaster in the end.
And Carroll did adjust some things at the half, thus only allowing 10 points to SD in the 2nd half.

No one really looked good on the defense really, maybe Bennett and some others who did put some good pressure on Rivers at times but he's a tough guy to get down.
Btw, Okung looked like shit...again on offense. He kept getting beat. With all his injuries and penalties he hasn't lived up to the expectations. Don't get me wrong, some times he goes out there and dominates, but overall just real inconsistent.
Anyways, I'll take the L on the road, chalk it up as a wake up call or whatever. Hopefully the defense looks sharp at home against the Broncos. 1-1 start is sure better than 0-2 (Saints!)

Well I think didn't have the best defensive matchups. Gates seemed to be making insane catches when it counted most and killed us. I'm not a schemer or that deep with knowledge but maybe they couldve covered him better, double teamed him in the end zone? Also the middle of the field wasn't covered well and the little crosses killed us.
Our offensive plan was weird. I think the fast big play mentality hurt us. We'd make big plays and scored extremely fast. Our bread and butter has been lynch pounding the ball and that's not possible when you're scoring quickly vs long drives. It also doesn't give the defense any time to rest. Itll be interesting to see how we evolve this year. Are we sticking to ground and pound or are we going to be high flying and fast? I don't see how those two could work together... the games just not long enough.

Nah, the weather probably played a factor to some degree but the bottom like was SD played a great game. Rivers was on point, Gates was a beast and their defense made the stops when they needed to in the 4th, combined with a really good game plan. I think they are certainly capable of being one of the top teams in the NFL this year.
The Chargers dismantled Buffalo. It was a great win except the loss of Woodhead is going to hurt over the long run. The undrafted RB Oliver looked solid. The defense laid down some hard hits. The offensive line looked good and seemed to be called for less mistakes.
The media keeps saying the injuries are piling up and include Mathews. Fuck Mathews, he never contributes to the wins. If anything, he is injured because he tried to recover his own fumble.
