Lost me right there, breh.

This is the reason Chevy gets no attention from me anymore. They play it safe with these fucking FWD's and put no motors with real power in their engine bays.

If they'd only pull a note from MOPAR and start dropping some customizable RWD platform cars, they probably woundn't falter in the market as much as they have.
Who knows if they'll make that shift back to RWD. Most of the market seems to be focused on "Economy" nowadays.

As far as MOPAR/Chrysler/Dodge goes...I think we may see the end of the current RWD models soon being that they are married to Fiat now and not Diamler Benz. Most of the new models are heavily influenced by them(Fiat). We'll see if the 300 goes thru another design change on that chassis. And if it doesnt then what?

Whats that mean for the Cherokee?

Well, at SEMA 2010 when the new Charger debuted, I was there at the conference and the new CEO of the MOPAR division really talked up the RWD platforms and how they were really pushing to be on the forefront of the performance side of their business and in the market. So, I hope they continue to do that despite their new ownership.

I hope the current RWD platforms do stick around for a bit(as they should and most likely will)

I rented a Toyota Camry when I was up in Chicago a while back and I drove that full tank of gas all 3 days I was there. I was all over that city, even drove the car about 1 hour out of the city and back.

Only filled it up 1 time and it cost me $40. That was the night I took it back.

Chevy has it all wrong. They think the "sportier" they make the rides the more sales they will have. People focuse more on Gas mileage now, more than ever. Get it right Chevy and I'll come back. Until then, I'm rollin Foreign.

And this is coming from someone who bought a Chevy Malibu brand new off the lot back in 2001. One of my best cars, but gas mileage sucked.

And yeah, the civilian version of the RWD Caprice won't be happening for a while.

But here's a question I ask you: even though they're only sending the RWD Caprice to police stations, what will happen when the cars are decommissioned? I doubt they'll crush them.
Yeah, that was a photoshop photo of the civilian caprice..

I've seen some of the "detective" caprices come up on ebay and they are not quite a civilian but they're close.. I'm hoping to get one of the ex-cop cars when they become available if they havn't released a regular model yet. The car has gotten great reviews from police depts so thats a good sign

Dodge is on a tremendous upswing as of late with their brand.

I was thinkin the same thing. Auctions maybe? It's gonna be interesting to see nonetheless.

I don't know. I guess i don't understand the politics behind having a car being sold for strict purposes, only to be later decommissioned. It seems like I've heard of old talk when 9C1 Caprice's started reaching their era's end and how they weren't going to be sold to civilian auto auctions, but I could be making that up because the Impala SS was a reworked and better done version of the Cappy's sold to law enforcement.

Man I swear some time ago I read that the only reason the 94-96 Impala came into existence was something to the tune of GM had an excess of either engines(which I doubt) or police packaged Caprices and needed something to do with them. Hence the 3 year run of the Impala, not to mention its "re-birth". I've been living by that for years. But now that I've been googling I cant find a damn thing to support that story so to some of you it might come off as bullshit. I know I read that somewhere tho....hell, that article just might have been bullshit itself to begin with, I dont know.

I feel like GM is just teasing the public with the current Caprice(police car). Are they really gonna release the damn thing sometime later? Cant be too much later because that design has been around for a while now(Holden Commodore). I mean I think the closest we'll ever get is the Pontiac G8 GT which I think is slept on(I'd pick that over a 300C any day). In my opinion GM is trying to get all it can out of the ZETA platform...do something with the rest of those G8s that didnt make it before Pontiac got the axe. Fuck it, put a Bowtie on the front, call it a Caprice and give it to the fuckin police.

Sweet.

Question: Is that Imp pictured first in the second link a prototype? Because those rims are looking real nice, but I've never seen them on anything related to the b-body before.
Im gonna go off on a limb here and say no, mostly because of those side view mirrors. The 94 had the mirrors on the door where as the 95 had them in the corner of the window. That one to me looks like a 95-96. Hell I cant even find a pic of the original at the '92 Detroit Auto Show.

This is the closest I've found but I highly doubt this is it..

I think the proto had Enkei wheels, now that I'm thinking about it...

Those links were informative. Thanks for sharing.

Impala's had some real weird shit done to them from the factory. The whole moving the rear end 3/4" forward to prevent wheel hop and the ability to turn on your headlights while shutting off the tail lights...

Tight..I never knew about that wheel hop issue. It's funny how Chevy managed to get that right when that's the main thing the 1st gen CTS-V suffered from.

But yea, besides the looks, that gen Imp was no joke.

Yeah, there was no more wheel hop, just tons of wheel spin. lol

Hotchkis is about the biggest company profiting from the forwarding of the rear axle.

they sell kits to replace the tire in the center of the wheel house. If you look at an Impala, you'll notice the back tire is off-center.
