I don't follow much of any other combat sports in the Olympics but boxing so if anyone has any info on any Olympians feel free to post up (any country).

This so far is the boxers that have officially qualified for the Team USA 2012 Olympics

Rau'shee Warren (Flyweight)
http://www.teamusa.org/Athletes/WA/raushee-warren.aspx

Warren passed up his pro career to compete in the 2012 Olympics because of a poor showing in 2008. It's rare to see a U.S. boxer compete more than once in the Olympics, this is going to be Warren's 3rd showing. Hope he can take it home.

I tried to find videos from either they're qualifying fights or fights against top ranked amateurs (even they happened to lose that match). I'm not overly excited about this but I wasn't too pumped about Wilder last time out and he ended up medaling. I do like Rau'shee Warren, Jose Ramirez, Joseph Diaz Jr & Errol Spence. Hopefully USA can bring home more than just one bronze medal this go around.

Here's the Cuban team that qualified for the 2012 Olympics..

Yosvany Veitia (Light Flyweight)

Don't know much about him at all and couldn't find much on him.

Robeisy Ramírez (Flyweight)

Lázaro Álvarez (Bantamweight)

There's also a video above of him fighting Joseph Diaz from Team USA

Yasniel Toledo (Lightweight)

Erislandy Savón (Super Heavyweight)

Roniel Iglesias took home a bronze medal in the 2008 Olympics and is the only returning boxer to the Olympics, which is very rare for Cuba. Lazaro Alvarez & Julio Cesar la Cruz seem to be excellent talents and should medal. This is a young Cuban Olympic class compared to what they normally send.

.. and Erislandy Savon is the nephew of the great Felix Savon.

Mexico qualified 2 fighters for the Olympics so far..

Oscar Valdez (Bantamweight)

Valdez is a returning Olympian who had the misfortune of going up against the eventual 2008 gold medalist in the first round. Mexico hasn't done well at the Olympics in the last few years hopefully they can at least place here and hopefully they get someone else to qualify and don't send only 2 fighters out there.

historically Mexico never does that good in the Olympics which is crazy considering how many great pro fighters they produce. maybe a combo of so many Mexican fighters go pro young and the typical "mexican style" is much more suited for the pros.

I think its more of the guys turning pro very young. Too many Mexican boxers to name that turned pro before it would've been legal for them to fight in the US. Not saying their fighting style doesn't play a part just that the need for pro money is great over there and most of them have their amateur careers play out fighting randoms and scrubs for money.

So it looks like the great Vasyl Lomachenko will turn pro (in the US) after The Olympics. It is said he has over 300 wins and only 1 loss in his amateur career, winning Gold in Beijing, although some say that record may be inflated (although there is only 1 loss that can be proven which was against Albert Selimov in the World Amateur Championships in 2007, a fighter he later beat). Anyways, no doubt all eyes will be on him during the Olympics and from the moment he turns pro. Lots of potential, lots of hype, lots to live up to...

Lomachenko Eyes American Pro Debut After The Olympics

By Alexey Sukachev

Vasyl Lomachenko, an international superstar of amateur boxing, thought by many to be one of the best masters who have ever laced up the gloves in the unpaid ranks, is considering a transition to the pro game right after the 2012 London Olympics.

“I’m thinking about turning pro after these Olympics are finished. I’m thinking of a U.S. debut”, said Lomachenko in his interview with the 2x2 Ukrainian TV Channel. “The real prizefighting is in the States. Its level, the best fighters – all of this can be found only in America. Frankly speaking, I see no professional boxing both in my native Ukraine and in Europe."

Lomachenko, 24-years-old, who is now competing at lightweight, jumped to stardom after his blistering performance and a gold medal at the featherweight limit in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He has also won the Val Barker Trophy in Beijing, being selected as the most outstanding fighter. Lomachenko added two gold medals in the world championships in 2009 and 2011, also becoming a European champion in 2008.

He will be a key figure for an extra strong Ukrainian national team, alongside 2011 world champions Olexander Usik (heavyweight), Taras Shelestyuk (welterweight) and Evgeny Khytrov (middleweight) as well as light welterweight Denis Berinchyk, who won a silver medal in Baku. Ukraine is considered as a big favorite to come out from London as the best boxing team.

A number of the US Olympic boxing team will turn pro immediately following the Olympics and will make their pro debuts on CBS, promoted by Golden Boy. Pretty cool. If any of these kids win gold, they'll obviously get a lot of recognition. Apparently this will air immediately after NFL games on a Sunday!

Golden Boy, Showtime, CBS Team Up For The Olympics

LOS ANGELES - Golden Boy Promotions, SHOWTIME Sports and CBS Sportswill team up to showcase standout boxers from the 2012 Summer Olympic Games making their professional debuts live on the CBS Television Network. The initial live boxing broadcasts, which will be produced by SHOWTIME Sports, include two dates, Sunday, October 14 and Saturday, December 15 with additional dates to follow.

"It is a great pleasure for Golden Boy Promotions to be working with CBS on this exciting network television opportunity for these young athletes," said Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions. "It is a chance of a lifetime and a guaranteed career jumpstart for some of these fighters to be able to make their professional debuts in front of millions of viewers on the CBS Television network."

"It is a dream come true for any Olympic fighter to make his or her pro debut on network television," said Stephen Espinoza, Executive Vice President and General Manager, SHOWTIME Sports. "I am grateful to my colleagues at CBS who are giving SHOWTIME the opportunity to present the future of the sport to the largest possible audience. It will be an exciting moment for boxing and I am proud to be part of this special presentation."

Schaefer will travel to the Olympic Games in London which begin on Friday, July 27. He will attend the boxing events watching closely for breakout performances by fighters in all weight classes. Schaefer expects to keep a keen eye on the 12 men and women representing the United States, one of the largest U.S. boxing delegations at the Olympic Games in recent years.

"On behalf of Golden Boy Promotions, I am excited to attend the Olympic Games and see firsthand the worldwide talent that will be competing in the tournament," said Schaefer. "We know these men and women have the potential to become the future champions in our sport and it will be a thrill to see what boxing can look forward to in the years to come."

In addition, Olympic gold medalist and Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya, who this year celebrates the 20th anniversary of his own Olympic gold medal win (1992 Barcelona), has pledged to be personally involved in the development of these fighters as they look for advice and guidance when he or she transition from their amateur to professional careers.

"I know from my own experience the pressure these young fighters are under to compete in the Olympics, to represent their country well and to bring home a medal," said De La Hoya. "Once the celebrating is over and they turn professional, there are certain things that happen during that transition that I feel I can assist them with because I did it myself."

the scoring system is definitely whack, but you know this to me is all about watching the talent from the US and across the globe. A lot of these guys are future champs so it's cool to see them at this stage to their pro debuts and see how they grow. Plus, it's the olympics, and although I'm not patriotic I just really want to see the US win a god damn gold medal!! It's been a long time, Beijing was a disaster.

Another thing is we get to see guys we would never ever get to see. The Cuban team for example, most of them will never be pro's so this is it.

Speak of, BIG fight tomorrow England vs Cuba super heavyweights:

Anthony Joshua Faces Erislandy Savon in Tough Opener

Finchley super-heavyweight Anthony Joshua will have to battle past a man with one of the most famous names in world amateur boxing history if he is to realise his dream of claiming a medal at his home city Olympics.

World silver medallist Joshua, one of Great Britain's best hopes for boxing gold, was handed a first round bout against Cuban Erislandy Savon - nephew of the great three-time Olympic champion Felix Savon - in today's draw at the ExCel Centre.

In a generally mixed draw for Great Britain fighters, middleweight Anthony Ogogo was paired with Junior Castillo of the Dominican Republic, against whom he will get the host nation's campaign under way on Saturday.

But there is no doubt the 6ft 6ins Joshua will be the centre of attention after landing a bout he would have preferred to avoid against the 22-year-old Cuban, a former world junior gold medallist eager to emulate his uncle, who won heavyweight gold medals in 1992, 1996 and 2000.

Great Britain team manager Matt Holt said: "Anthony had a fantastic World Championship and he is ready for this fight. It is always tough against the Cubans, but we know we have got a super-heavyweight who can mix it with the best."

Five British fighters - Andrew Selby, Luke Campbell, Thomas Stalker, Nicola Adams and Savannah Marshall - were given first round byes on account of their seedings, as were Ireland's Paddy Barnes, Michael Conlan and Katie Taylor.

anyone see that? awesome fight, Terrell Gausha from Cleveland just got the first KO of the Olympics so far. he was down a point going into the final round and appeared to possibly losing the final round but with less than 10 seconds to go he scored 2 crushing knockdowns and the ref stopped it, getting the win over the Armenian.
