Alls it really comes down to with me is--whether you agree with gay marriage or not--you need to recognize gays as a minority that deserve their civil rights. Throughout history there were always arguments to deny minorities their civil rights.
Two lesbians who have been together for 20+ years deserve the right to visit the each other in the hospital should one of them end up dying of breast cancer. Its that simple.
As for the "I agree with everything except it being taught in schools"--if you don't even know the extent to which its going to be taught in school, then you should find out and make a better appraisal of the situation before you deny some one a few simple rights. I'd bet that they won't say very much about it at all.
Hey man, good shit, i think you just made up my mind for me on this one. If you read my earlier post i said i was confused about 8, wasnt sure where to go with it. But you bring up a good point i never really thought about. Its easy to overlook gay people and yadada because im straight, and i like to think that church should stay seperate from state. anyway, back to the point, if catholic/christians were the minority here, and i was being discriminated against for believing in what i believe in, i would not like it because its not the governments business what i believe in.
So the question really comes to this. Is it the governments business and job to mandate whether or not gay people get married? No. Is it the job of the government to mandate what its constituents want? Yes.
Thats where the problem is, people need to be put in the situation of a gay person and look at themselves as a person being discriminated against because of who they are.
i believe someone who is gay, knows there gay from day 1. and i was all for civil unions but that creates a second class.
i also believe the obama ticket is for gay marriage but they know so many people are against it that they have to ask themselves, do i need those votes? and yes they do.
but yea, good point. No on 8.
