    The Clash -- all you have to know. Punk rock blended with reggae The Smiths -- one of the mellowest, coolest bands from the 80's. And I'll second my IRA-supporting friend (I do too) on the Killers, Modest Mouse, and Interpol. I'd also add The Shins (trippy shit) and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs
