A man has died after being shot by a Minnesota police officer Wednesday night while inside a car with a woman and child, officials said.

The incident in Falcon Heights, a suburb of St. Paul, appeared to be partly documented in a Facebook Live recording posted by a woman in the car, who identified herself as the man's girlfriend. The video, which was briefly removed from Facebook but later republished with a warning of graphic content, had as of Thursday morning been viewed close to 2 million times.

The deceased has been identified by family as Philando Castile, and police have identified the woman filming the altercation as Diamond Reynolds.

This shit has gotten so out of hand. I have no idea how it must feel to be a victim of something like that

This YouTube comment was a good suggestion imo:
Excepting clearly justified cases, every police officer who kills an unarmed citizen, should never be allowed to return to the Police Force. At the very least, cops will think twice."

shit is the 559th black man killed by the cops this year. too much. I'm literally bothered by it. if you had guns to your face by cops you know how close you been to the same issue.

sucks to have your mom stress and worry bout little things like you goin out.. the thought the cops might pop you quicker than your own kind right now. shits deep.

I just hope we all find a way to use our voices for positivity instead of using it for the wrong reasons. there's power in numbers if we use it for the right reasons.

559th black man killed by cops this year? You got proof to back up that ludicrous claim? That's completely and utterly false considering there's only been 522 total deaths by police for all races put together

I suppose these "559" black men were all unarmed too right?

Alton Sterling Is the 558th Person Killed by Police This Year, and It's Only Going to Get Worse | Complex

"Alton Sterling Is the 558th Person Killed by Police This Year, and It's Only Going to Get Worse"

"On Tuesday, 37-year-old Alton Sterling was killed by police outside of a convenience store in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. So far this year, more than 500 people have been killed by police, and thanks to the U.S. Supreme Court, cops can continue to abuse their power with impunity, creating an especially dangerous climate for black Americans."

Food for thought

Echo chamber (media)
In news media an echo chamber is a metaphorical description of a situation in which information, ideas, or beliefs are amplified or reinforced by transmission and repetition inside an "enclosed" system, where different or competing views are censored, disallowed, or otherwise underrepresented. The term is by analogy with an acoustic echo chamber, where sounds reverberate.

How it works

Observers of journalism in the mass media describe an echo chamber effect in media discourse.[1][2] One purveyor of information will make a claim, which many like-minded people then repeat, overhear, and repeat again (often in an exaggerated or otherwise distorted form)[3] until most people assume that some extreme variation of the story is true.[4]

Participants in online communities may find their own opinions constantly echoed back to them, which reinforces their individual belief systems. This can create significant barriers to critical discourse within an online medium. Due to forming friendships and communities with like-minded people, this effect can also occur in real life. The echo chamber effect may also prevent individuals from noticing changes in language and culture involving groups other than their own. Regardless, the echo chamber effect reinforces one's own present world view, making it seem more correct and more universally accepted than it really is.[5] Another emerging term for this echoing and homogenizing effect on the Internet within social communities is cultural tribalism.[6]
