Here was my post game analysis:


You ever hear that saying that when mistakes / accidents happen it is usually a confluence of multiple factors. I think it was Malcolm Gladwell who hypothesized that when a plane accident occurs it was preceded by an average of 7 human errors.

The Seahawks should have destroyed that Lions team last night but we didn't and barely beat a 0-4 team at the most difficult venue for opposing teams in the NFL. Here are our human errors that are converging to create the undesired outcome:

1) O - Line the most obvious problem. Russell has been sacked 18 times so far this season. That is tied for first and 4 more than 2nd place. It's bad. Justin Britt is currently grading out as the 2nd worst tackle in the league.

2) Russell Wilson takes too much time to throw the ball which exacerbates the porous O-line. Last year Russell took the most time of any QB to get rid of the ball:

2.5) However when Russell did get the ball out quickly "When he did get the ball out quickly last year — in 2.5 seconds or less, according to Pro Football Focus — he had the league’s highest quarterback rating"

3) You would think that when faced with such a shitty O-line the QB would get that he needs to release the ball quickly. He does not get that. Even in the face of hard numbers.

3.5) But this isn't all about Russell holding the ball too long or Bevell's PLAY CALLING its about PLAY DESIGN. - Why are so many of our plays built so that Russell is already under pressure before our receivers are into their routes??? Russell is statistically a better QB when he gets the ball out faster yet we are still running plays that take too long to develop. Whats worse is that even on the quick plays Russell still holds the ball and waits for a better throw.

4) Even though Russell is holding the ball a league leading amount - he is not going through his progressions. He is generally looking at 1-2 receivers and then letting the play breakdown. That is not elite quarterbacking.

5) Russell is currently leading the league in percent of plays under pressure at 43.9%.

6) When Russell gets the ball out in less than 2.5 seconds (78 times on the season) he has been sacked 3 times. When Russell takes more than 2.5 seconds (85 times on the season) to get rid of the ball he has been sacked 15 times.


What the hell was the front office thinking?? We have a QB that is known to hold the ball but yet we thought we could get away with having the worst O-line in the league? That is insanity. It's like a simple SWOT analysis. What is Russell's weakness? - He hold the ball too long. How do you fix that? - Build a strong O-line. We are literally matching up the worst part of our team with our QBs biggest weakness. It's crazy.

We had a bad o-line last year and our front office decided to double down and literally go from having a bad o-line to the worst o-line in the league. At the same time, we still have the QB who would be THE MOST NEGATIVELY IMPACTED BY HAVING A BAD OLINE.

We need to get this fixed asap. Bevell needs a new playbook, Russell needs to throw the ball quickly, and Tom Cable and Co. needs to realize he can't turn every lump of coal into a diamond.

Dude, get that cherry picked stats analysis out of here man I'm not buying any negative talk against our lord and savior Russell Christ Wilson, especially when it's done with cherry picked stats that can be easily dismissed. Yes he's been sacked the most, we've also been missing Marshawn Lynch / the run game. Our team wears down teams with the run, and beats them with occasional long explosive plays when they're thinking the run, that's Pete Carroll.

The run just hasn't been there yet so defenses are going all out pressure on Wilson, consistently through the entire damn game. There's a reason he holds onto the ball long and that number is the largest out of everybody: no one is ever fuckin open early on the Seahawks offense and Russell Wilson adds a lot of time to that stat by escaping sacks, and actually creating those explosive plays we desperately need out of nothing. When they're open, he consistently hits them fast like we saw him doing with Luke Wilson yesterday among others.

That stat is picked out in a deliberate desperate attempt to try and make it seem like Russell Wilson is just standing there in the pocket looking at open receivers and not seeing them which isn't the case. Of course his numbers would look better when getting rid of the ball quickly with quick passes, because that's when receivers are actually getting open, and he's hitting them.

When we get the run going that's when we'll be back to normal, the sack numbers will go way down.

Well what I said was:

When you take a QB that tends to hold on the ball longer than average and then pair him with an 0-line that gives him no time, it's a recipe for disaster.

It's not all on Russell by any means. In fact I blame the front office more for seeing that they had a QB that needs a bit more time, and then focusing on literally every aspect of the team other than the part that would give him more time.

As far as Russell goes, there is no question he is a better QB when he gets the ball out quickly and doesn't wait for a play to break down before throwing in a scramble. That approach works for the occasional big play, it's not sustainable to build a permanent offense around.

Not to mention teams are scheming against that this season with success. Last year we led the league in "explosive plays" this year we are 15th.

Teams are able scheme against the run and the big play leaving the short pass open because they know Russell won't take it. So that is where we are now, less explosive plays - less run - open for quick passes but not taking them.

Even though the Seahawks managed to beat the Lions on Monday night, the Seattle offensive line is taking a verbal beating for the physical beating to which it exposed quarterback Russell Wilson. The criticism apparently has prompted guard Alvin Bailey to crack.

“Thinkin about 31 other cities I’d rather be in then Seattle right now,” Bailey said on Twitter.

As a fan said in response, “Thinking about 31 other offensive linemen I’d rather have too.”

Bailey, as noted by Curtis Crabtree of KJR and PFT, entered camp as the presumed starter at left guard. But several other players got first-team reps at the position before Justin Britt was moved to left guard from right tackle.

Bailey has appeared in every game this season, but with no starts. The next question is whether he gets his wish and/or whether the fan gets his wish, too.

I would bench everyone. They are horrible. Sweezy isnt much better and that new C is awful. Gilliam has hope and Okung looks uninterested. Also, Graham is a TERRIBLE blocker. I mean...wow. That is part of the issue here too is that our starting TE, doesnt know how to block for shit. Remember when Miller was here? One of the best, mayne.

Well yeah he sucks at blocking because he's a receiver that occasionally lines up in the TE spot, that's 100% on the Hawks for thinking they could bring him in and be something he's not. The only thing Graham should be doing is catching passes and occasionally "block" in the sense of getting in the way of a defender and maybe slowing him down a little.

Man I was thinking about this and the only thing I could come up with is that the Hawks are continuing to use him at TE because they don't want to pay him WR money when his contract is up.

Or worse start using him as a WR and then have him hold out for WR money.
