Not necessarily. I don't think he would fight recklessly against Povetkin that is if he's smart. I imagine he'd just jab him to death.

He just got hurt by a used car salesman. Big Nipple knocked this can out in one round, Wilder went to war with this dude.

Wilder's only chance would be to get him out early. If he can land something big first round. That's the thing Wilder has going for him, his power can always bail him out. But man getting rocked like that against a guy like Molina is a very bad sign. I know Wlad made adjustments in his career after he got KOd several times, but as of right now Wilder doesn't clinch and he doesn't have the best jab, something he'll need to work on. He's not ready for Povetkin though.

I'm curious what happens from here. Povetkin seems like a guy that really wants to be heavyweight champion. I'm wondering what his price is going to be to pass up his mandatory position and not just that he knows that if he crushes Wilder the money that'll be there for a full heavyweight title unification would be insane.

I'm not big on paying attention to boxing business but I'm definitely interested if Povetkin accepts step aside money considering the earning potential the WBC heavyweight title would bring him.

I don't see how Povetkin steps aside, the man seems hellbent on winning a title. I think Wilder will have to vacate.

It's too bad Tyson Fury is fighting Wlad next. That's one big fight that Wilder MIGHT be able to win. But Fury will likely get destroyed by Wlad and the fight won't make much sense after that. Only way he gets out of Povetkin fight is if some how Wlad and Povetkin rematch.

Anyways, what everyone think of Walters? It was a good fight, I'm surprised the Columbian was still standing he took some big shots. Walters is really big for the division, apparently they say they are still going to try and make the Lomachenko fight. I'd favor Walters, just too big and strong for Loma. But if he moves up there are some great fights at 130 and I bet he would be fine at 135 too he cuts a ton of weight. I'd like to see him fight Gamboa at 130.

That's what makes it interesting. Haymon may not want him to fight Povetkin but you know Wilder isn't in the fearing business.

I think this is a weird spot because it's not a super bantamweight champion that can just move up to featherweight to "avoid" a fight. There's a lot of eyes on Wilder from people that aren't really boxing fans as well, if he drops the title to not fight Povetkin that won't be well received.

The fact that he's an exciting, American, heavyweight champion makes him extremely marketable. This may be a fight they have to make or try and get the WBC to void Povetkin's mandatory.

Marriaga fought well despite the scorecards. Tight defense, short punches, and a good chin, unlike most Colombian fighters. I'm hoping he doesn't go back to fighting no hopers in Colombia and someone decides to guide his career.

I think Lomachenko/Walters would be an awesome fight, hopefully it still happens. Curious to see how Walters deals with Loma's speed and movement, definitely think Loma can take a decision.

Did you check out Redkach/Zlaticanin on Showtime Extreme?

Walters looked huge in comparison to Marriaga. I felt bad for the guy; he tried his best, but the dude was simply too big for him. They should do something about these weight disparities on the day of the fight. I enjoyed the Verdejo fight the most. Dude is gonna be a star. Najera has an unreal chin I might add

BoxingScene.com has confirmed with multiple sources that Roberto Garcia has withdrawn from his scheduled fight on Saturday night with unbeaten welterweight prospect Errol Spence Jr. The fight was scheduled to be the Premier Boxing Champions televised co-feature on NBC from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

The card is headlined by a twelve round fight between Adrien Broner and Shawn Porter.

From what BoxingScene was told, Garcia was struggling to make the welterweight limit. But a source close to the boxer told BoxingScene.com that Garcia is unable to go forward due to "undisclosed personal reasons" and claim the situation has nothing to do with weight.

The current frontrunner to replace Garcia on short notice is welterweight contender Phil Lo Greco (26-1, 14 KOs) of Canada.

Ken Porter says no contract yet, coming in at 147
What the hell is ellebere doing

LAS VEGAS — Much has been made about the catch weight ahead of Saturday’s first between Adrien Broner and Shawn Porter.
Only there’s no contract stipulating said catch weight, Kenny Porter told USA TODAY Sports on Thursday. The father/manager/trainer of Shawn says they verbally agreed to compete at 144 pounds rather than the welterweight limit of 147, but he’s yet to see it in writing just two days before the NBC bout.

“We come in at whatever (weight) we come in tomorrow unless they show us (a contract) that shows us different,” Kenny said. “We agreed on something verbally, but I need to see a contract. It’s a Mayweather promotion, (Broner is) a Mayweather crony, wannabe, and I think that Mayweather’s holding up the contract because they’re trying to help him get an advantage by draining Shawn.

“If you show us the contract and it says 144 plus a pound, then you know we may not drain ourselves to get that other pound off. So if you hold up, you may be able to get us to do that.”

The situation lends a lot of drama to Friday’s weigh-in. There’s not much time to get the contract signed, and it’s unclear if Porter will be forced to honor the verbal agreement at all.

There’s also an agreement to have a same-day weigh-in where the fighters can’t exceed 154 pounds, but again, it’s not in writing.

“It can definitely backfire on them,” Kenny said. “They can’t cancel the fight. But we woke up at 147 today. So there’s no reason to come in lower, definitely. But they’re going to have to present the contract and going to have to do the right things, the proper protocol has to be followed tomorrow.”

Broner won titles at 130 and 135 before catapulting the 140-pound division and settling at welterweight. He won a title at 147, but after a defeat to Marcos Maidana, dropped down to junior welterweight.

Porter weighed 165.5 pounds for his professional debut in 2008, and for his 14 fights that followed, he weighed 152 or above. So cutting three extra pounds could be daunting, especially for a fighter who relies on non-stop pressure to attack.

But with no contract signed, Shawn doesn’t necessarily have to come in at 144 on Friday, and Kenny said he might have him come in heavier “just because you’re giving it to me so late.”

“(Broner) thought that it would give him some type of advantage, but the problem he’s incurring, the situation he’s got going on, is Shawn is a consummate professional athlete and lives this way year round,” Kenny said confidently. “So for his fight class of 147, he never goes over 12 to 15 pounds of that fight weight.

“And it so happens that we were preparing to try to get the co-main event on the Mayweather card, so he was in fabulous shape and his weight was low. We got the call for this and all we did is turn up the flame a little bit and the weight came down. … It’s not hurting us at all, Shawn’s feeling good.”

If Shawn indeed gets the contract and must fight at 144 pounds, maybe the extra weight loss won’t affect him after all.
