For your first pistol I'd suggest a Springfield XD 9mm.

Something like this.

Springfield XD's are great easy to use guns, especially for people new to shooting.

Also 9mm ammo is a whole hell of a lot cheaper than .45. Thats like 40% more shooting fun at the range lol
