But really they say English is one of if not the hardest language to learn because of shit like that. Two words, same sound, one you add another letter to the front, which is silent, means two completely different things lol.
English is pretty simple and easy:



German Grammar is crazy!

Chinese is easy to a point (any of the hundreds of Chinese languages). But the problem then comes with reading and writing, as well as tones. One fuckin word can mean heaps of different things.

Example of Standard Mandarin tones
Hanzi Pinyin Pitch contour Meaning
妈/媽 mā high level "mother"
麻 má high rising "hemp"
马/馬 mǎ low falling-rising "horse"
骂/罵 mà high falling "scold"
吗/嗎 ma neutral question particle

I've called my mother in law a hemp horse before... :chinese:
