Why you use tortillas on your lasagna?

Totally an abomination made by white people but I once had a "Mexican lasagna" that used tortillas, flavored beef, cotija & queso cheese (pretty sure some other cheese too), jalapenos, salsa, etc.. and it was amazing. Felt like I was eating something that would be served at Taco Bell if was a actual restaurant and not a fast food spot though. Would eat again.
