Adonis Stevenson vs. Andrzej Fonfara rematch may happen in April 2015?

According to this Polish source, Andrzej Fonfara may have a rematch with Adonis Stevenson on Showtime in April 2015.

Rewanż Fonfary ze Stevensonem w kwietniu 2015?

And if the Polish site is not a good enough source, from Stevenson's own Promotoer Yvon Michel:

"For April we want the best possible opponent and he will get knocked out. Michel detailed everybody ranked in the WBC and who was acceptable to Showtime for Fridays fight before settling in with Sukhotsky. That list, now one man shorter, might have them returning to the well another time with Andrzej Fonfara who is one of the few to bring Adonis to the scorecards and drop the champion. We will propose Fonfara."

This is acceptable as Pascal and Kovalev already have their fight booked.

And because of the BS that was pulled in Pascals fight Kovalev gave the greenlight and I have no problem with that. From what I've been reading, the winner of Kovalev and Pascal has an IBF mandatory title defense against Mohammedi in may or june. Stevenson can then take a voluntary defense in that time to stay fresh. However, a unification trumps all of that.

^^^Wow thats gay. This dude dont want to fight anyone worth a damn lol. What a shame. Got Em!!
He can't fight either of those guys at the time as the winner has to face Mohameddi. Now if it's a unification bout nothing else matters but he's simply doing a defense to stay active. You will see Stevenson vs Kovalev/Pascal in the later half of 15 if they can get the network Al Haymon shit settled.

BERMANE STIVERNE TALKS DEONTAY WILDER CLASH: "HE'S FOUGHT NOBODY...NOBODY WILL BEAT ME"
By Press Release | December 19, 2014
BERMANE STIVERNE TALKS DEONTAY WILDER CLASH:

With one of the most potentially explosive, must-see heavyweight matchups in recent history less than a month away, hard-hitting WBC World Champion Bermane "B. Ware" Stiverne and undefeated heavyweight contender Deontay "The Bronze Bomber" Wilder participated in a media teleconference call Thursday to discuss their eagerly anticipated heavyweight world title fight on Saturday, Jan. 17 live on SHOWTIME® at 10:00 p.m. ET/7:00 p.m. PT from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev. The two heavyweights were joined on the call by Hall of Fame boxing promoter Don King, President of Don King Productions and Eric Gomez, Senior Vice President of Golden Boy Promotions.

Here's what Bermane Stiverne, as well as Don King and manager Camille Estephan (Stiverne) had to say Thursday:

BERMANE STIVERNE, WBC Heavyweight World Champion

"To be a role model to the kids & people in Haiti is all motivation to me.

"He's fought nobody, I always train like I'm fighting the best out there.

"As far as a game plan, all I can say is 'Don't Blink!'. Watch the action on Jan 17. I can show you better than I can tell you.

"The belt is great, it's meant a lot but I'm still hungry. I still want more.

"Defending my title in Vegas at the MGM Grand is a dream. Nobody will beat me. This belt isn't going anywhere.Jan. 17 is going to be a short night and it's going to be painful."

DON KING, President of Don King Promotions

"This program is a return to glory, an American return to glory in the heavyweight division.

"The WBC Heavyweight champion, Bermane Stiverne versus mandatory challenger Deontay Wilder is going to be a great event and a fight for peace.

"This is a fight to bring boxing and the country back to where it should be and being able to bring the glory back to the heavyweight division, which has been lacking for quite a while now.

"It has been about 10 years since there was a heavyweight match here in America, so we are going to celebrate this at the MGM Grand.

"I feel that Bermane will give Wilder a lesson after they meet in their heavyweight fight for peace here at the MGM Grand.

"This fight for peace symbolizes the essence of America's creed, freedom, justice, equality, liberty and peace, which makes all Americans proud and extremely grateful. I'm looking for bringing the heavyweight championship back to America and we are doing that.

"We are bringing boxing back to the people, the people is what it is all about.

"It's heavyweight time, it's America's time on January 17! Tell the world!"

CAMILLE ESTEPHAN, Stiverne's Manager

"I want to tell you what I believe. I do not like to put things politically correct, (32-0, 32 KOs) against who? We believe this [Deontay Wilder] is a choreographed career, very well done. Good job. But I believe Wilder will quickly realize that fighting at this level is a whole different universe, but by then it will be too late for him. Bermane will make a statement.

"Don't blink guys, I really hope all the fans on this planet get to realize who the new Mike Tyson is.

"We earned this, we paid our dues, we waited a long time, we have been dodged by many for many years and blocked for many years. The time has come for people to realize that the most beautiful talent in boxing today is called Bermane Stiverne. We will show you on Jan. 17."

Watch Out For Julian "J Rock" Williams

Over the last couple of years Julian "J Rock" Williams has been working his way to be one of the best Super Welterweights. With a record of (17-0-1, 10KO's) Williams is proving to be one of Philly's top prospects. Williams has fought tough opponents and beat them with ease, Williams has boxing ability and knockout power. Williams beat Hugo Centeno Jr. back in september of last year, the same Centeno Jr. who knocked out James De La Rosa on the undercard of Rosado-Lemieux earlier this month.

Williams beat Orlando Lora by TKO, Lora has been in the ring with the likes of Keith "One Time" Thurman, Paul Malignaggi and Jermall Charlo. Williams also knocked out Freddy Hernandez who also has been in the ring with top competition such as Andre Berto, Luis Collazo, Erislandy Lara, Delvin Rodriguez and Demetrius Andrade.

So Williams didn't have a easy road he just made look like it. Williams is coming off a 8 round UD win over Eliezer Gonzalez this past September at The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

Williams is set to take on Jamar Freeman (13-3-2, 7KO's) tonight at 10pm live on Showtime Extreme. Williams is looking to finish the year off with a bang and will bring a lot of action in this fight.

photo: saul alvarez miguel cotto floyd mayweather jrBy Dan Ambrose: Former WBA junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez may not be anywhere near the popularity or the talent level of Floyd Mayweather Jr, but that’s not keeping the red-haired Canelo from budging from the May 2nd date that he plans on fighting.

The May 2nd date falls on Cinco de Mayo, and that’s a date that Mayweather has been fighting on for the last five years. However, Canelo says that date is one of the Mexican holiday dates, and he’s stubbornly not going to move off the date even though he doesn’t bring in anywhere near the same pay-per-view numbers that Mayweather does.

“It’s very important to have the support of Oscar De La Hoya,” Canelo said to estoenlinea.oem.com.mx. “It is a very important date for me and I will not move it. I’m retaking the Mexican dates because they are very important to us and we are appointed to it to fight in May and September.”

Canelo might not still end up getting bumped off one or even both of those Mexican dates. If the Mayweather vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr fight gets made, then Canelo can forget all about fighting on Cinco de Mayo, at least on major pay-per-view, because it’s not going to happen. Even if Canelo does get the May holiday date, it doesn’t mean he’s going to get the September date.

Canelo will likely need to fight someone very, very good like Pacquiao or Gennady Golovkin next September if he wants to boot Mayweather off that date. If Canelo gets beaten by Miguel Cotto in May, then it’s very doubtful that De La Hoya will throw him in the ring with Golovkin or Pacquiao in his very next fight. What we’ll likely see instead of Canelo get put in with another Alfredo Angulo type opponent to pad his resume more and to give him another confident booster, as if that will make any real difference.

They can give Canelo never-ending confidence booster opponents like Angulo, but he’s still going to major problems if he gets put in the ring with the likes of Golovkin or Pacquiao. It’s about talent rather than confidence when you face guys like that. If you don’t have the talent then you’re going to get beaten.
“I’m ready to face Cotto, but he’s not the only option.”

This is Canelo’s way of telling Cotto that he’s not going to be able to control the negotiations, I guess. Unless Canelo’s backup plan is Golovkin, then I think Cotto really is his only option for May 2nd. Once Cotto is out of the picture, then Canelo will get bumped off the May 2nd date by Mayweather even if he faces someone like Kell Brook or Amir Khan.

Mayweather doesn’t need a really big name to face him on May 2nd if Canelo isn’t facing Cotto. It’s not as Golden Boy is going to put Golovkin in with Canelo at this point. They’re not going to take that risk until after Canelo has faced Cotto, and even then there’s big questions whether De La Hoya will say yes to a dangerous fight like that for his fighter.

De La Hoya thinks Canelo is going to be boxing’s biggest pay-per-view star for the next 10 years. That’s not going to be the reality if Canelo gets chopped up by Golovkin. That’s why Canelo really doesn’t have much of any choice for his May 2nd date. It’s Cotto or another soft job like Angulo, and if he fights another soft job, Canelo will get bumped off May 2nd. He absolutely needs Cotto to bump Mayweather off the Mexican holiday on May 2nd.

De La Hoya: I will be using the pressure of the fans to bring best fights in 2015

photo: oscar de la hoyaBy Dan Ambrose: Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya is saying that he plans on bring the best fights possible in 2015. This is kind of a yearly thing, and you can only wish it were true. De La Hoya may need to check with Al Haymon before he makes big pronouncements like bringing the best fights because we didn’t see the best fights in 2014.

Danny Garcia vs. Rod Salka and Lamont Peterson vs. Edgar Santana are just two of the less than pleasing fights we saw this year. How about Saul “Canelo” Alvarez vs. Alfredo Angulo. That wasn’t very good either.

“Can’t wait for 2015, I will be using the influence and pressure of the fans to bring you the best fights possible. G @Golden Boy Boxing,” De La Hoya said on his twitter.

We may see Canelo vs. Miguel Cotto in early 2015. That’s a decent fight, but far from what I consider to be the best.

If Canelo or Cotto were considered to be the best fighters at 160, then I would see this as being a fight that you can consider the best. But if we see Canelo face Gennady Golovkin then we’re definitely looking at one of the best fights possible. De La Hoya obviously has no control over the Top Rank promoted Miguel Cotto, so he’s not open to discussion.

What’s sad is that the Canelo-Cotto fight might end up blocking the best fight that can be made between Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao. With Canelo insisting that he fight on the Mexican holidays, he could very well be getting in the way of a much bigger fight involving far more talented fighters in Mayweather and Pacquiao.

Canelo is a decent fighter, don’t get me wrong, but we’ve already seen him exposed by Mayweather, Austin Trout and Erislandy Lara. Canelo is more of a fighter that is famous for being famous rather than famous for being talented or famous for having achieved anything in his career. His biggest wins are controversial victories.

De La Hoya needs to put his foot down so that we see guys like Danny Garcia fighting the best opposition. It would be a pity if he continues to fight Rod Salka type fighters. The same goes for Deontay Wilder. We need to see these guys step it up a level and stay at that level all the time rather than having them take breaks. Garcia arguably lost to Mauricio Herrera and then he turned around and fought Salka rather than Herrera again to clear up the controversy.

it's obvious the reason Oscar backs everything the ginger says is because Canelo is really the only star that actually has a contract with Golden Boy. Everyone else was with Al Haymon and had no contract with GB. So the ginger really is Oscar's Golden Boy.

DLH is very smart, that's why he's able to pay Floyd all that money. He just had a bad year cuz of all the shady shit going on behind his back. But now he's gonna do what he can. Certain fighters, I feel, HBO is willing to broadcast even thogh they are under Haymon. Quillin being one that comes to mind. Canelo can make it a catchweight fight, while Quillin get's maybe more money than what he would have received from Roc Nation, and there is a buyable fight. He can get Andy Lee and unify with either Cotto or GGG later in September.

Mayweather Reportedly Offered 120 Million Guarantee for Pacquiao Fight

_Floyd_Mayweather_Jr_053707_Feels like we’re back in 2012 with the ongoing Mayweather-Pacquiao negotations with all the he said she said going on from both sides. Even the Abu Dhabi investors are pitching like in the past.

According to a report by BoxingScene.com, the group from Abu Dhabi of UAE have upped the offer for a Mayweather-Pacquaio fight to a guaranteed $120 million dollars to Floyd Mayweather. Akbar Muhammad who is one of the principal investors said that the offer was submitted to Mayweather Promotions.

“The media has been speculating the offer has gone up $10 million to a guaranteed $120 million, and they’re right,” said M. Akbar Muhammad. ““Mr. Mayweather has said he’ll fight Pacquiao in the spring, so the only matter that needs to be resolved is the money.”

Frankly the issue has been more than money, more than drug testing, and more than dates. It’s the willingness of Floyd Mayweather and Bob Arum, his former promoter working together as it seems that was and still is the major hurdle from the start. But if anyone is offering the most money, it certainly is the group headed by Mr. Muhammad.

“I defy any other offer to come anywhere close to what Mr. Mayweather and the ‘Money Team’ will net by fighting in Abu Dhabi. It simply can’t and won’t be done. Such is the nature of today’s international financial landscape. It’s a brave new world, and sports is embracing it,” said Muhammad. “Mr. Mayweather can be cutting edge, a trend-setter. “

Truth be told the fight can happen anywhere and at any time and it would be a global event but Muhammad feels bringing the fight to Abu Dhabi is more than a financial gain for Floyd Mayweather.

“But money’s not the only factor that makes this an historic event,” said Muhammad. “The fight happening in Abu Dhabi makes it a truly global event. There’s more to boxing than just Las Vegas. For instance, the media tour for this event will not be just in the United States; it’ll be a worldwide tour, one which will hit major capitals and countries around the globe. ”

A guarantee of $120 million dollars is something that can’t be seen or done by any other athlete in sports by one night’s work. How truthful the offer is would be another story. But if Mayweather’s about money could he pass up such and offer especially if Mayweather Promotions is the lead promoter as Mr Muhammad says they will be?

“Future fight cards in this part of the world, regardless if Mr. Mayweather fights on them, will be done with Mayweather Promotions as the lead promoter,” said Muhammad.

Even if Mayweather agrees, would Arum allow Mayweather Promotions as the lead promoter and what about Pacquiao’s guarantee? There are still a lot of questions and not enough answers for the biggest possible fight in boxing history to be made.

Why risk fighting Peter Quillin now when he can (hopefully) fight Cotto sooner (like in May)? Remember, Quillin doesn't have a belt anymore so it would be a high risk low reward type of fight. Doesn't make any sense right now. Andy Lee, now that would make more sense if Canelo want's a middleweight belt which would hold more leverage over Cotto who appears to be acting like a diva again.

But Quillin F'd himself big time. Because he dropped his belt rather than fight his mandatory in Korobov (who Andy Lee just KO'd), Quillin has nothing. He's never headlined a show himself, he's always fought on undercards. He has no fan-base. The most publicity he ever received was for turning down a $1.4 million dollar purse and everyone calling him a ho. So Quillin is out. No one (meaning big name guys like Canelo) will give him the time of day, not unless he has at least a belt to offer.

Plus, just because HBO might be willing to showcase certain fighters, that doesn't mean Al Haymon is willing to work with HBO. And I'm sure Haymon has some awesome plan for Quillin anyways, I'm sure it will consist of Jermain Taylor and Danny Jacobs.

article_5e3009fa4feb2916_1356595216_9j-4aaqskAmir Khan was once in a poll with Marcos Maidana as a possible foe for Floyd Mayweather. In the pool on the Mayweather Promotions site, fans voted that Khan should be Mayweather’s foe for his date this past May. Maidana got the nod and netted a rematch with Mayweather in May as well.

Khan handily defeated Devon Alexander this past weekend and has been calling out Mayweather before and after the fight. Mayweather said hi focus on Manny Pacquiao and that no one outside of boxing knows Khan.

Khan seems confused.

“First he said I was a big name, now he’s saying I’m not a big name. I don’t know what he’s doing,” Khan told Fight Hub TV. “I want the Mayweather fight because I believe it’s a fight I can win. Breaking down the fight, speed, power, and movement, fine people say I can’t take a shot, he’ll never hurt me anyway.”

Khan feels he’s one of the smartest if not the smartest fighter in boxing and a game of chess is something he can win against Mayweather.

“That fight would be like a game of chess, nobody would beat me at a game of chess,” explained Khan. I’ve lost fights because of myself where I let people beat me. The two fights I lost by knockout, I let that happen because I look for a knockout and I had no game plan. When I went to the Garcia fight, I had no game plan, when I went to the Prescott fight I had no game plan. I’ve gone into so many fights with no game plan I just went with the flow.”

Khan feels his union with his trainer Virgil Hunter is a blessing. He now has a game plan and now has guidance and follows through with what’s done in training camp.

“With Virgil I have a game plan, I’ve never gone to fights with a game plan until now like following what I do in sparring and you see the difference,” stated Khan. “I’m thinking and becoming more wiser as I get older. I might not have the same engine when I was 24 but I got more experience and the experience is winning me fights, thinking in fights.”

That's how all the Showtime cards are for me with Showtime (they are all delayed). Sucks, it's so stupid. It's the only reason why I don't have Showtime.
