If getting rid of Winston means we hold onto Gilliam, im very OK with that.

I mean I like Gilliam's size and age, but otherwise I don't know much about him. I definitely like us keeping younger guys over older guys.

I am like you though, o-line, o-line, o-line. Stashing guys and extra depth makes sleep better at night haha.

Visions of our o-line last year give me nightmares.

He really only played in the 4th Q of the preseason games. If you have them still on your DVR, go back and check him out. He played very very sound at LT. Yes, the competition is not necessarily NFL caliber, but he did what he was supposed to do.

Seahawks not satisfied despite dominant victory

RENTON, Wash. (AP) -- Richard Sherman stood at his locker going through all the areas that he believed needed work: tackling, capitalizing on potential turnovers, avoiding big penalties.

This after the Seattle Seahawks opened defense of their Super Bowl title with a 20-point win over Green Bay, an expected contender in the NFC.

The Seahawks came away from Thursday night's season opener believing they didn't impress anyone, most of all themselves.

''It was off. We weren't up to par. We weren't up to snuff, and I think everyone feels that way,'' Sherman said after the victory. ''We've got to play better.''

There didn't seem to be anything overwhelming about Seattle's season-opening win over the Packers, other than the final score.

Russell Wilson threw for two touchdowns, but he's had more efficient games. Marshawn Lynch ran for 110 yards and two scores, but he's had more memorable nights. The Packers were held to 255 total yards on offense, but Seattle's defense didn't seem to dominate in the same way as its Super Bowl win over Denver.

The impression left from Thursday night was that Seattle didn't play its best and still won easily. And that could be a scary thought for everyone else in the NFC trying to catch the Seahawks.

''We were really impressed with how hard the guys played across the board, all three phases were really aggressive. And the effort was really there. And they were really excited to play on opening night,'' Seattle coach Pete Carroll said on Friday. ''It turned out to be a terrific effort in general. That really jumped out.''

The Seahawks should be pleased with how they played, especially on defense and in the run game. The 255 total yards were the third-fewest for Green Bay since the start of the 2012 season. Aaron Rodgers was held under 200 yards passing for just the 13th time in his career when attempting at least 15 passes.

Notable was Rodgers' never throwing a pass Sherman's direction. Sherman remained as the left cornerback all night, and Rodgers never dared go that way. According to STATS Inc., Rodgers attempted passes to the right side of the offense - where Sherman was playing - 52 percent of the time last season.

''If a team lets you know they're not throwing the ball to one side of the field, it helps everybody that is playing in pass defense. If it's not going over there, it's going over here,'' Carroll said.

''We can't bank on that totally, but after a while in a game it's pretty clear,'' he said.

On the other side, Lynch looked fit and spry with his 20th 100-yard rushing game since the start of the 2011 season. Seattle's front bullied Green Bay's defensive line, including a solid first performance by rookie right tackle Justin Britt.

The one injury concern for Seattle coming out of the opener was a groin injury suffered by cornerback Jeremy Lane. Carroll did not go into specifics on how long Lane might be out, other than saying ''he's going to be down for a while.''

Between Lane's injury and backup cornerback Tharold Simon having minor knee surgery to repair cartilage damage, the Seahawks depth in the secondary is suddenly a little thin. Seattle hopes Simon will be back in about four weeks.

''There is some stuff that we'll be working on here,'' Carroll said.

Lane's spot as the third cornerback was going to be important early in the season with Seattle opening against pass-happy offenses in Green Bay, San Diego and Denver before getting to its bye in Week 4. For now that role belongs to Marcus Burley, acquired in a trade with Indianapolis late last week.

''We really liked the kid coming in and did a fantastic job of being ready to play in that game down the stretch. We're really pleased,'' Carroll said. ''He'll play for Jeremy at this time. We have no other alternatives that we would think of at this point, but we were really happy with what he did.''

NOTES: Asked if Earl Thomas would remain his punt returner, Carroll said, ''sure.'' Thomas fumbled a punt in traffic in the first half. ... Carroll said OL Lemuel Jeanpierre was placed on injured reserve earlier this week because of a nerve problem in his neck. ... LB Bruce Irvin (hip) was in for 19 plays, and the goal is for him to play half the game in Week 2.

I don't believe earl or percy should be returning punts. Let a third or second string WR do it. Punts are the most violent part of the game and we don't need the yardage that desperately. Its the offenses job to drive the ball down field and special teams only needs to secure the punt and get off the field. I'd be satisfied with fair catching every single punt kicked the entire season. I know a lot of hawks fans are all for it and its an unpopular opinion but I feel its reckless and stupid... and would lose a little respect for pete if he allowed one of our highest paid most impactful players get injured for a few extra yards here and there.
Not to mention earl thomas is a psycho. He has crazy eyes and also thinks he's invincible and will try to catch anything kicked even if there's two dudes in his face. Shit that fumbled punt I don't even think he was aware of who was in front of him or where they were as he was trying to catch it. Carroll needs to cut the shit and have earl focus solely on defense

Earl Thomas out as punt returner

RENTON, Wash. -- Seattle Seahawks free safety Earl Thomas said he feels part of the reason he lost his job as the team's punt returner was the risk of injury.

"Yeah, of course," Thomas said Thursday. "But that's like me saying I don't want you to get a promotion because you're too good at what you do."

Thomas knows a lot of Seahawks fans thought it wasn't worth the risk to one of the team's best defensive players.

"The fans, they can kind of sleep easier now," Thomas said. "They can stop sending their regards in. They're a little bit selfish in my perspective. People don't understand you and what you're capable of. They are used to seeing you in a certain role and don't want you to expand."

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said the risk of injury did not play a part in taking the punt-return duties away from Thomas. Carroll just wants Thomas to focus on his job as an All-Pro safety.

In Week 1, Thomas returned two punts -- fielding one for a 3-yard return and fumbling the other away after Richard Sherman accidentally blocked a defender into Thomas.

When Carroll told Thomas his punt-returning experiment was ending after one game, Thomas accepted it and said he didn't try to talk Carroll out of it.

"I didn't try to convince him," Thomas said. "He's the boss. I'm not about to argue with him. But one thing I will say is I know I could be one of the best returners in the league, no matter what people say."

Carroll said Wednesday that wide receiver Bryan Walters would return punts Sunday in San Diego, and it's possible receiver Doug Baldwin also might get a chance.

"It's not about me,'' Thomas said. "It's about the team, so I just took it that way. I'm all-in no matter what the situation is. B. Walt is a great returner, and he deserves it, but overall, I'm just happy to be a part of this team."

Thomas believes he'll get another shot at the job in the future.

"I know my opportunity is going to come again,'' Thomas said. "It's going to be in a big moment where I'm feeling good, and [Carroll] is going to put me back there and I'll make a play. That's what I'm banking on.

"Things don't always happen the way you want them to, but I know I'm always up. I'll always be prepared. I know I'm going to impact this team, as far as punt returns, in a positive way. I have full faith in my capabilities. I'm not worrying about anything."

The NFL Competition Committee announced on Friday that it is investigating allegations thatSeahawks*Strong Safety*Kam Chancellor*has been employing gun powder charges embedded in his cleats to effectively emulate actual missile attacks to upend opposing receivers targeted in the Seahawks secondary. The league is examining closely samples of artificial turf from the areas of impact between Chancellor and several prominent wide receivers, which it noted are all badly burned and stained with urine.Video evidence from several NFL games last season suggest that Chancellor may have literally launched himself from the turf on a number of occasions directly into the path of opposing receivers, dislodging the ball from their grasp and propelling them chaotically into a crash pattern above the field.Shoes worn by Chancellor during six games from the 2013 season and 2014 Super Bowl have reportedly been examined by NFL forensics experts, although officials have yet to confirm the presence of any traces of the illicit highly explosive substance. The charges came as a surprise to the Seahawks front office, who had issued Chancellor cleats explicitly designed not to house explosive charges, in compliance with the NFL’s stringent equipment standards.San Francisco 49er tight end*Vernon Davis*said he couldn’t confirm hearing Chancellor detonate prior to impact, but also noted that he’s never actually seen Chancellor coming and has no recollection of the gruesome videos he’s seen of Chancellor sending him to the turf.Denver Broncos*wide receiver*Wes Welkersupported the NFL’s suspicion, tweeting "Bam Bam knocked me halfway back to Boston. He’s a Patriot Missile. I feel cheated."In a statement released to media on Friday morning, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said "It’s unfortunate that we have to investigate this, but when you’ve got a guy out there that moves like a missile and is actively knocking players off the field like that on purpose, well it's just not right. And we’ve got to look into the very real possibility that he actually is a missile."The NFL sent the videos to Nike for further analysis of Chancellor’s equipment. After conducting their own review, Nike’s most trusted expert on equipment performance, Senior Footwear Expert Mars Blackmon, told the league "It’s gotta be the shoes."
