Sounds like a little bit of ptsd and/or anxiety
I have anxiety attacks while I sleep almost daily, always happens within the first 45 minutes of falling asleep, it's weird as fuck, wake up freaking out for a few seconds then I'm good lol

After I got back from Afghanistan in 2007 I used to wake up in the middle of the night and start going through the motions of a fire mission (shooting them big ass artillery cannons).

I think getting woken up by mortars and rockets being shot at us a couple nights a week for 16 months in Afghanistan and 12 months in Iraq had a permanent effect like my body won't let me relax cause it thinks it's gonna have to get up anyway and start pumping adrenaline.

Maybe I should look in to xanax or something.

that xanax is a touchy thing tho breh, not judging or anything, but the doc had me hooked on benzos for a while & kicking that habit was worse than any dope habit i ever kicked.

& also, mortars, rockets & gunfire.... makes me wish they'd had taken me back in 94 before I caught a case. but apparently the marines wont take colorblind or flatfooted guys in peace-time.

muhfuckers told me to go join the army in which i had ZERO interest.

I hope you're getting help from the VA about that breh. That's no joke man and should be worth a pretty decent disability claim. That sounds like PTSD like a mug. As far as I know, the nightmares like that usually happen before REM sleep happens and often pretty early into your sleep.
