Man has 'world's biggest tumour' weighing 242 lbs removed from his back - Mirror Online

A man is recovering after having what is believed to be the world's biggest tumour removed.

Yang Jianbin, 37, had the 242lbs growth surgically removed after it grew constantly for 25 years.

It started off as a birthmark on the right side of his lower back but when he was nine it turned into a tumour.

By the age of 12 it was the size of a fist and it was removed for the first time.

However it quickly started growing again and when he recently checked into hospital in Beijing the tumour weighed an enormous 110kg.

Chief surgeon Chen Minliang said: "We have seen neurofibromatosis patients before, but this is the biggest nerve tumor we ever saw."

The giant tumor greatly affected Yang's life. He says: "I can only lie down or sit on bed all day long."

Removal surgery involved 9 doctors and took 16 hours. During the surgery Yang received more than five litres of blood - more than the entire amount an adult's body holds
