Major League Baseball legend Tony Gwynn dead at 54

Tony Gwynn has died at the age of 54. The Major League Baseball legend battled cancer of the salivary glands for several years. He believed the cancer developed after years of chewing tobacco during his playing days.

Gwynn was a 15-time MLB All-Star and played 19 seasons with the San Diego Padres. He was known for his excellent batting skills and finished with an amazing .338 career batting average. That feat is so rare that only 30 MLB players have finished their career with a batting average over .330.

Gwynn’s son, Tony Gwynn Jr., currently plays for the Philadelphia Phillies.

RIP he was a beast. Some of these stats I'm reading are crazy. 3 people in the MLB struck out more than 40 times in April this year. Tony Gwynn never struck out more than 40 times in a season! I should quit chewing too but I can't its too awesome.

Not even gonna front as a life long Yankees fan that was born in the Bronx I got a little something in my eyes when I heard Zimmer passed. Dude was in MLB in some form for 66 years, that's crazy.
