Richard Schaefer still owns stock in Golden Boy, so if he were to join some other promotional company and compete with Golden Boy that wouldn't make any sense. As Yahoo Sports pointed out, most likely part of the agreement in ordee for Schaefer to leave with shares would be based on a "non-compete" agreement. So again, I think he's done with boxing, otherwise he wouldn't still be invested in GB.

Really interesting article with Bernard Hopkins about Golden Boy Schaefer. This part is important:

Although it is widely presumed that Schaefer, a Swiss-born banker who had no background in boxing until he became De La Hoya’s business manager and then GBP’s CEO, will now partner up with Mayweather, Haymon and Ellerbee, there are legal issues that must be ironed out. For one thing, Schaefer – who signed a contract extension with GBP in April 2012 that Hopkins said “runs until, I think, 2017 or 2018” – remains a shareholder in the company, which could make it difficult for him to join Mayweather Promotions or some other promotional entity until the expiration of that arrangement. In a prepared statement, Schaefer indicated that he will “look forward to the next opportunity,” and that he hopes that opportunity is in boxing, but he also noted that he also is “proud to remain a shareholder, so I have a strong interest in the continued success of the company.”

Also interesting to note Hopkins says he had no contract with Golden Boy and says he'll align himself with whoever serves his best interests (to fight Stevenson).

But then the fighters will have an option of going to whatever promo company they would want to, right? The money is with HBO. But at least GBP can go to either network so now we get to see if Quillin really wants GGG or not, Chavez vs Canelo, Garcia vs Provodnikov, etc. GBP will still come out on top over Mayweather.

All that remains to be seen. If these guys are with Al Haymon, and he advises them to sign with another promoter and continue fighting on Showtime (where Haymon a has VERY close relationship), Golden Boy can't stop them.

That's why I think it was shady of Schaefer. Obviously Oscar should have been more involved, so it's his own fault, but the purpose of any company is to make money, and by Schaefer having the vast majority of these guys not sign any contract whatsoever with GB seems intentional. No promoters do that because they are investing money in these guys. How can you have the best roster in boxing and only about five guys are under contract? That's just terrible business. It could potentially put GB out of business.

But HBO has been saying that for awhile now but people viewed them as being mad cuz of what happened with Canelo and Mayweather. But GB wouldn't go out of business at all. We need to see who is officially under their roster, then what networks they want to put their fights on. If I were a fighter, I would go to whoever is fighting at HBO. Regardless, what will Mayweather promotions do, have their fighters fight eachother? They will still need to cross promote and that's still all bad for them. Not even Main Events will fuck with Showtime anymore.

Schaefer really did Oscar dirty if you think about it. Almost NONE of these guys have contracts with Golden Boy, only Canelo and a couple others. Almost everyone else is signed with Al Haymon as either manager or advisor with NO actual contract to Golden Boy.
I've been thinking about that too. As many good things that Schaefer did, I think he was also a pawn for Haymon and Mayweather, mainly Haymon. Haymon is obviously a master of influence and negotiation. I think he sold Schaefer on the benefits of doing business the way they did as there was some benefit to GB but they were getting shafted in the long haul. So he was naïve and didn't understand how stupid that was, or he didn't want to lose Haymon's influence/business, or was setting himself up to leave GB.

Can you legally own a stake in 2 competing companies?

Golden boy isn't in a horrible position here. They can promote on HBO (assuming they eat some crow there) and Showtime unless Showtime is really suckin Haymon's dick so hard they won't allow GB fights there which would be stupid. I think you'll see a huge push to get Canelo back on HBO. GB can also match their guys with Top Rank fighters. I think GB will remain a viable company for guys to sign with through all of this.

LEONARD ELLERBE CLARIFIES THEY MIGHT WORK WITH GOLDEN BOY IN FUTURE, BUT NOT FOR FLOYD MAYWEATHER'S NEXT FIGHT
By Ben Thompson | June 03, 2014
LEONARD ELLERBE CLARIFIES THEY MIGHT WORK WITH GOLDEN BOY IN FUTURE, BUT NOT FOR FLOYD MAYWEATHER'S NEXT FIGHT

"Floyd is looking to fight the biggest fights out there in boxing. As it relates to Floyd Mayweather, if there was an opportunity and Golden Boy approached Mayweather Promotions about Canelo Alvarez wanting to fight Floyd Mayweather again, of course we're going to sit down and have a discussion to see if the fight can be made. Other than that, I don't know what fighters they have and what fighters they don't have...I wish them nothing but the best and I have nothing personal against Oscar. If there's a situation and an opportunity where he has a fighter such as Canelo, would we do business? Yes, we would," stated Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe, who clarified that there is a possibility that they could still do business with Golden Boy Promotions in the future, but just not when it comes to Floyd Mayweather's next fight on September 13. Check out what else he had to say!

BT: Leonard, obviously the big news is that Richard Schaefer has left Golden Boy Promotions. In the past, Floyd has made it clear that he feels it was Richard who built the company and that's who he prefers to work with.

LE: [Cutting in] At the end of the day, the person we worked with resigned. I've never worked with Oscar [De La Hoya].

BT: So Oscar was never involved in any of your business meetings with Golden Boy Promotions?

LE: Not one. That's no knock on him. I'm not saying that he's not capable, qualified, or any of the above, but my relationship hasn't been with him. I don't have nothing bad to say about him or their company. It's just the people that I and my team have personally worked with from an execution standpoint has been Richard [Schaefer] and Bruce [Binkow]. But everyone on their team are great people who are all an asset to their company.

BT: Well speaking of companies, as it relates to Mayweather Promotions and your fighters, are you saying that you have no desire to work with Golden Boy Promotions or any of their fighters now that Richard Schaefer is gone?

LE: I don't even know which fighters they have. Listen, I have nothing personal against Oscar. All I stated was that I've never had any working relationship with him. Floyd Mayweather is the biggest star in the sport. With what we're looking to do as quickly as September 13th, are we supposed to sit around and wait to see how their situation shakes out over there? We're moving forward and doing the things we've been doing. We've done a number of shows on our own and we have the right pieces in place to continue to execute and do what we need to do. There's so many integral pieces to a promotion and it takes more than one person with the know-how to get it done and executed. From the marketing side to the promoting side to the operations side, there are so many different things and it's a group effort; not a singular effort, but a group effort. Showtime has a tremendous staff and a tremendous team. We haven't been working 16 to 18 hours a day trying to grow our own brand sitting around waiting on somebody else. That's an insult. We've done a number of shows ourselves without them. Just because we don't raise our hand and say, "Ooh, look what we're doing and look what we've been doing," people just automatically assume that Golden Boy had done this and Golden Boy has done that, and that's absolutely not the case. We've worked hand-in-hand over a number of years and we've had a great working relationship, and I'll continue to say that. We've had a great working relationship with Richard and Bruce and their team, but nobody's been sitting around over here for the last 7 years doing nothing. We've been growing our own brand and doing our own shows with my own staff and my own team. We've put the necessary pieces in place to execute. Again, I have nothing against Oscar, but as it relates to today, I can't sit around here and say we're doing business with somebody on September the 13th when I don't even know what their leadership situation looks like. And furthermore, as it relates to Floyd Mayweather on September the 13th, there's nobody that we're looking at that I need to talk to them about. We're not going to sit around here. We're doing our own thing, we have our own fighters, and we're looking to continue growing our own brand.

BT: So you're not necessarily saying the door is closed when it comes to working with Golden Boy Promotions. It's just as far as September 13th and Floyd's next fight are concerned, Golden Boy Promotions will not be involved.

LE: Floyd is looking to fight the biggest fights out there in boxing. As it relates to Floyd Mayweather, if there was an opportunity and Golden Boy approached Mayweather Promotions about Canelo Alvarez wanting to fight Floyd Mayweather again, of course we're going to sit down and have a discussion to see if the fight can be made. Other than that, I don't know what fighters they have and what fighters they don't have. That's not my business and I'm not concerned with that, but if we're looking to make a fight with a guy like Danny Garcia or Amir Khan or Marcos Maidana, their company is in a flux right now and I would be picking up the phone to call the same person I already talk to 8 or 9 times a day anyway [Al Haymon]. We've already got the ball rolling on a number of different things as it relates to getting out in front of our promotion; a number of different strategies on marketing and promoting for September. This train doesn't stop. It's just by happenstance, in the past, the fighters that we've fought have just been under their particular banner and we've had a tremendous working relationship with them. But I don't know what their situation is, it's none of my business, and I don't care. I have to be concerned about my own promotional company, my own team, my own staff and what we got going moving forward. I wish them nothing but the best and I have nothing personal against Oscar. If there's a situation and an opportunity where he has a fighter such as Canelo, would we do business? Yes, we would.

From Dan Rafael:

Besides star client Mayweather, Haymon has numerous name fighters in his vast stable. Among those who are associated with Golden Boy: Danny Garcia, Marcos Maidana, Adrien Broner, Lucas Matthysse, Amir Khan, Deontay Wilder, Peter Quillin, Shawn Porter, Keith Thurman, Erislandy Lara, Devon Alexander, Gary Russell Jr., Paulie Malignaggi, Sakio Bika, Robert Guerrero, Lamont Peterson, Daniel Jacobs, Andre Berto, Victor Ortiz, Jermell Charlo, Jermall Charlo and Luis Collazo, not to mention 2012 U.S. Olympians Errol Spence Jr. and Marcus Browne, two top prospects.

It is not clear which of those fighters are under contract to Golden, Boy but it is believed that Khan, Guerrero and Alexander are (although my understanding is that Alexander’s June 21 fight is the final fight of his deal). Some fighters are known to not be under contract, including Porter, Thurman, Russell, Berto, Peterson and the Olympians.

Trout-Dawson in August
June 3rd, 2014 | Post Comment - 19 Comments

Trout Dawson Trout vs. Dawson Daniel Dawson austin trout By Dan Ambrose: Daniel Dawson (40-3-1, 26 KO’s) and former WBA junior middleweight champion Austin Trout (26-2, 14 KO’s) will be fighting in August at the StubHub Center in Carson, California, according to Fightnews.com. Trout’s once promising career as sunk in the mire recently with his back to back losses to Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Erislandy Lara in 2013, and he’s now in situation where he can ill afford another loss.

The Dawson vs. Trout fight could be a WBA junior middleweight eliminator bout with the winner becoming the mandatory challenger to champion Erislandy Lara. That would suit Trout fine because he wants to get a second shot at Lara after losing to him by a 12 round unanimous decision last year.

Trout almost beat Saul “Canelo” Alvarez last year in April in a fight that was scored very generously in favor of Canelo by the judges working the fight.

Trout might have been able to win the fight had he not had to change his game plan after the scores of the fight were revealed after the 4th and 8th rounds due to the open scoring of the fight. Trout had to go from fighting defensively to fighting in an all-out fashion, which is not a style that is suited towards the non-punching Trout. He’s more of like a Floyd Mayweather type of fighter who does a lot better when boxing his opponents rather slugging with him.

Dawson, now 36, has beaten Alex Bunema, Eusebio Baluarte, Marco Tuhumury and Virgil Kalakoda in his last four fights. Dawson has never beaten anyone that you could call a good fighter. His win over the 38-year-old Bunema and Jason LeHoullier are by far the biggest wins of Dawson’s career, and that’s nothing special. Bunema likely would have knocked Dawson out if he were 7 years younger. This is the same Bunema that stopped a prime Roman Karmazin in the 10th round in 2008.

Change is good for Oscar and Schaefer
June 3rd, 2014 | Post Comment - 89 Comments
176Share 2 193Share 7Tweet

By Robert “Big Moe” Elmore: Change can be good. It’s never bad unless one mismanages his/her time while making the change. The abrupt stepping down of Richard Schaefer as CEO of Golden Boy Promotions has done just that; brought about change. I refuse to side with either because I don’t know where either would be without each other.

Oscar had the popularity, but he needed someone to run the day to day operations which what Schaefer did. Who knows where they would be had they not teamed up. But it’s a new chapter and I’m very excited to see how this plays out. But this is what change does. It forces you to think outside the box and it brings out other things inside that one probably didn’t know was there. If Oscar steps into the Schaefer roll, this could force him to be more hands on with future fights. He will have to be more aware of what’s going on around him. For example, he stated that he didn’t know half of the fighters on Golden Boy were not signed to his company. How could he miss something like that?

If Schafer chooses to start his own promotional company, he will now get a taste of what it’s like to build from the ground up (Golden Boy was already established upon his hire). Or should he choose to join Mayweather Promotions, his banking savvy, and knowledge of promoting fights is already there. Or he could start promotional company with manager/advisor, Al Haymon. But things could ugly in the coming weeks. As I stated above, most of the fighters are not signed to Golden Boy.

Those names have yet to be released. But if they are major names, this will force Oscar to look for more talent and continue to build on the fighters that are under contract. Again, this isn’t a bad thing. He seems to have buried the hatchet with Top Rank CEO Bob Arum. But Oscar may have to wait until he finds out who is stable or who is not if he talking about putting n big fights. And where does Floyd Mayweather fit into all of this?

Mayweather has co promoted with Golden Boy since 2007 and he still has three fights left on his deal with Showtime. He could very well just co promote with another promotional company and continue with his career. But his loyalty is to Schaefer and he will definitely have an impact on Floyd’s career move. But I don’t see anything wrong with change. How each party uses his time during this change will be interesting to see.

Floyd Mayweather will self-promote his Sept. 13 fight, his first time doing so and the first time since 2006 that he officially will fight under any banner other than Golden Boy Promotions, the CEO of Mayweather Promotions said today.

Leonard Ellerbe stressed that while a power upheaval at Golden Boy Promotions spurred the change, the timing for seven-year-old Mayweather Promotions is ideal.

"We haven't been sitting around since 2007 doing nothing," Ellerbe said. "We've done shows without them (Golden Boy). Granted, they weren't Floyd Mayweather shows. But we've been doing this a long time and we're ready to go.

"We're not looking to sit around under somebody else's umbrella. The timing couldn't be better. This was going to happen anyway."

Ellerbe said after Mayweather's May 3 win over Marcos Maidana that Mayweather Promotions is ready to take over its namesake's future promotions.
richard-schaefer-promo.jpgRichard Schaefer resigned from Golden Boy Promotions on Monday. He's helped promote every Floyd Mayweather fight since 2007.Josh Slagter | MLive.com
That followed a fight week of public in-fighting between Golden Boy Promotions founder Oscar De La Hoya and CEO Richard Schaefer, leading to the latter's resignation Monday from a company he helped to create.

While Mayweather's next opponent has yet to be selected, the most likely options for a fight barely more than three months away are Danny Garcia or a Maidana rematch.

Either could ease the effort for a first-time major promoter who can deal easily with both camps: Garcia and Maidana are advised by Mayweather's adviser, Al Haymon.

Ellerbe declined comment on the next opponent but said negotiations began the week after Mayweather won a rugged majority decision from Maidana.

"That ball's been rolling," Ellerbe said. "We've had several strategy sessions, several meetings, made several visits to prospective venues for our touring dates (the pre-fight media tour). This train hasn't stopped since May 3. We had a business meeting Monday morning after the fight. While everybody else was taking time off, we've been working. We haven't stopped."

Mayweather and De La Hoya have a long-running feud that pre-dates their 2007 fight, won by the 37-year-old Grand Rapids native. That included a period from 2001-06 when Floyd Mayweather Sr., after quitting as his son's trainer, trained De La Hoya.

But when it came to Mayweather fights, Schaefer was the liaison for Golden Boy, never De La Hoya.

"I haven't worked with him," Ellerbe said of De La Hoya. "Richard and his team have been doing the day-to-day stuff ever since we've been involved with them. That's no knock on Oscar at all. Just in our experience, we dealt with the CEO."

Ellerbe would not preclude working with Golden Boy in the future, in some capacity, just not for Sept. 13.

"Their company is in a leadership flux," Ellerbe said. "Whether that will be temporary or long term is not for me to say and it's not my business. In the short term, there's been a change, and we'll see how it plays out, but we're not going to wait around and see who fills what job. We can't wait. We have no reason to wait."

Mayweather co-promoted his last nine bouts but Golden Boy Promotions always was the promoter of record.

Mayweather Promotions since 2012 has presented multiple Showtime-level promotions, produced its first world-title holder, and built a 12-fighter stable.
leonard-ellerbe-schaefer.jpgLeonard Ellerbe has had a good working relationship with Richard Schaefer.Josh Slagter | MLive.com
The biggest fighter under its banner — or any banner — just produced a seismic shift in boxing's balance of promotional power.

There is widespread speculation Schaefer will remain in boxing, perhaps in a relationship involving Haymon and/or Mayweather, with Golden Boy chief operating officer Bruce Binkow potentially joining him.

Ellerbe said Mayweather only fought under Golden Boy's banner because of the company's vast stable of potential opponents, a pool significantly reduced by attrition and several fighters who have fought with the company without signing long-term contracts.

The latter list includes both of Mayweather's likely next opponents, Garcia and Maidana.

"This isn't about the people in place," Ellerbe said. "It just happened to work out where we were fighting their fighters. If Dan Goossen had a 147- or 154-pounder, or somebody in the 140-plus range who had been in a number of big fights and gotten a number of big wins, I'd be doing business with him."

Ellerbe said what comes next is a natural progression.

"We haven't been working 16, 17 hours a day, seven days a week, for the last seven years, for nothing," Ellerbe said. "During that time frame, we've evolved and grown our own brand. I'm concerned about Mayweather Promotions and our fighters, not some other company's fighters. It's not about Oscar or Golden Boy Promotions. It's about us and our company.

Golden Boy shake up could help Timothy Bradley

When CEO Richard Schaefer stepped down on Monday from Golden Boy Promotions, Cathedral City boxer Timothy Bradley said he wasn’t sure if he might see more interesting and lucrative fights just yet.

“Honestly, I don’t think a whole lot about it. Just because one person leaves the company, then all of the sudden we’ll all get along? Business is all about the relationship. For a long time Golden Boy and Top Rank haven’t had a relationship,” Bradley said Monday.

“I just don’t see it. There’s probably a lot more going on than we see. There’s a lot that hasn’t come to the forefront,” Bradley said. “It’s weird Schaefer left. I don’t understand it. They think it’s all over because he didn’t want to make a deal with Top Rank.”

After weeks of speculation, Schaefer is walking away from Golden Boy, a company he has helped run for a decade over an apparent riff with company founder Oscar De La Hoya and Schaefer’s refusal to do business with rival Bob Arum and his company, Top Rank.

“After more than 10 years with Golden Boy, it is time to move on to the next chapter of my career,” said Schaefer in a statement. “This decision has required a great deal of personal reflection, but ultimately I concluded that I have no choice but to leave.”

If Schaefer truly was the road block that kept Golden Boy and Top Rank from pitting their fighters against each other, then his resignation could open up the door for many fights that fans have wanted to see, but couldn’t be made because of the “cold war.”

“To me, if they will work together, if Oscar sticks to his word, then boxing will get bigger than it’s ever been,” said Randy Caballero, the only local boxer who is signed with Golden Boy. “You get people coming up to me and say boxing isn’t the same and they’re going to MMA.

“The big names that people know, those fights are going to happen, fantasy fights that people want to see, and now they can happen. If they do work together, it’s going to be something big.”

Bradley could be one of the fighters to benefit. At Top Rank, Bradley has already fought the company’s biggest stars in the division in Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez, as well as fast-rising star Ruslan Provodnikov. In October or November, Bradley said he plans to return to the ring, and if Top Rank and Golden Boy manage to do business, there will be many more appealing options for Bradley.

Among the top welterweight stars in the Golden Boy stable are IBF champion Shawn Porter, WBA interim champion Keith Thurman, long-time rival Amir Khan, Californian Robert Guerrero, and hard-hitting Marcos Maidana. In the junior welterweight division, Golden Boy promotes WBA and WBC champion Danny Garcia, rugged Lucas Matthysse, flamboyant Adrien Broner and Zab Judah.

Because big fights between the two companies couldn’t be made, particularly the Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather superfight, Bradley thinks it’s starting to affect boxing’s pay-per-view market.

Bradley’s thrilling rematch against Pacquiao in April and Mayweather’s surprisingly difficult and exciting fight in May against Maidana produced disappointing numbers. Several reports had the Bradley-Pacquio rematch at around 800,000 buys, which was down from their first fight in 2012 that was reported around 900,000. Mayweather, who was coming off the richest fight in boxing history in September, failed to generate a million buys, according to various media reports.

“The fight fans are getting pretty fed up with what’s going on,” Bradley said. “The fight fans aren’t really buying the fights or paying attention because the same crap is going on. If they work together, the fight fans will be back on board. A lot more will be back.”

A riff between De La Hoya and Schaefer became public in a Los Angeles Times story when De La Hoya said he reached out to Arum to stage a fight between Top Rank’s top star Manny Pacquiao and Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez.

The next day in the Los Angeles Times, Schaefer said he refused to do business with Arum. Neither Golden Boy nor Top Rank have staged a fight between boxers from both companies.

Richard Schaefer’s statement

"After more than 10 years with Golden Boy, it is time to move on to the next chapter of my career. This decision has required a great deal of personal reflection, but ultimately I concluded that I have no choice but to leave. I have succeeded in banking and I have succeeded in boxing, and I look forward to the next opportunity. I am proud to remain a shareholder, so I have a strong interest in the continued success of the company. I am proud of what we have accomplished at Golden Boy, but I now look forward to new challenges."

‘I can bring Manny Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather to Dubai’

Fight promoter Shafipour vows to bring boxing’s biggest names after GFC success

By Leslie Wilson Jr

Dubai: UAE fight promoter Prince Amir Shafipour has revealed he is "dead serious" about bringing the much-hyped mega-fight between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao to Dubai next year.

A day after he had stunned more than 5,000 fans at the inaugural Global Fighting Championship (GFC) event at Dubai World Trade Centre by announcing that the world’s best pound-for-pound fighters would be bringing their craft to Dubai, Shafipour on Friday offered Gulf News an exclusive insight into the ultimate sporting coup he is aiming to mastermind.

“I will honestly and truthfully tell you that if anyone can convince them to fight, and to fight in Dubai, I can,” he said. “I have a lot of worldwide connections, with managers, promoters, fighters, people in the business, who speak the same language that Mayweather and Pacquiao are speaking.

“You have to be on the same page as them and only then will you get their attention.

“I am currently working with a major boxing promoter in the USA, who is connected to both the Pacquiao and Mayweather camps, and who has the capacity to help me pull this off. It’s not a boast, it’s a commitment.”

The ‘will they, won’t they’ Mayweather vs Pacquiao saga has consumed boxing fans since 2011 but has failed to come to fruition as both fighters have failed to agree on fundamental issues such as money, venue, weight division and dope testing. However, Shafipour, a three-time world champion in kick and Thai boxing, believes all those hurdles can be brushed aside.

“Both of them know that the whole world wants to see them fight. And which fighter does not want to give what the world wants?” he said. “I know many people have failed to bring them to the ring, for many reasons, but I believe that we have the formula to make it happen. And then the whole boxing scene will explode.

“We have shown fight fans in Dubai, the UAE, what we are capable of doing with the Global Fighting Championships. We brought some of the best K-1 fighters to Dubai and they put on a terrific show for a million dirham bonus, in addition to the big appearance money they collected. This was just the start. This will culminate in the biggest fight ever, between Pacquiao and Mayweather.”

Shafipour is the brain behind the inaugural GFC series, a multi-million-dirham kick-boxing series that has dates in Dubai, Turkey, Holland and Morocco, where the winner of each event will eventually meet in a Grand Prix final in Australia worth $1 million.

“I also want to build up boxing in the UAE with similar style events,” he said. “But my ultimate vision is to put on a show that has never been seen before in Dubai, which will capture the attention of every fight fan on the planet and provide Dubai with the a kind of world advertising that it deserves as a mega city. A city not just of sky-scrapers, luxurious appartments and living, but a city that cares for sport of the highest calibre.

“We already have the best horse race, golf and tennis events taking place, what we now need it a fight event that will blow everyone away and that event is Pacquiao vs Mayweather — and we are going to make it happen.

I don't see how anyone can be excited for what Al Haymon has planned. He doesn't work with Top Rank and HBO, so it will be much of the same. If the end game is moving all these guys to TMT, well Floyd has proven he is as greedy and stubborn, if not more, than the worst of them. So while Golden Boy reunites with Top Rank, and likely HBO, the rest of these guys would be still fighting exclusively on Showtime and not working with other promoters, i.e much of the same bullshit.

^^^but that's if the fighters want to sign to TMT. Even if they are signed to Haymon, he is still not a promoter. What is he gonna do, drop the fighters if they don't sign to TMT? I just don't see the fighters want to leave GBP either. That's why Ellerbe is clarifying the comments and saying they are not "fully" closing the door on GBP. If it's a full on Mayweather Promotions fight on September it will fail. And like when last year TR wanted the Bradley vs Marquez fight to happen on Mex Indy Day, they will try the sam with JCC.

Ellerbe was mainly talking about a hypothetical Canelo rematch, other than that it's clear what he's saying, followed by Floyd's immediate announcement he's not working with GB anymore.

Ellerbe is the one with a promoters license and it was announced today Floyd's next fight in September will be self promoted (TMT).

All these fighters signed with Al Haymon for what reason? Money. They know he gets guys paid. If Haymon tells them to leave GB and go to TMT (or wherever) they'll do it. I mean Bernard Hopkins, a partner of Golden Boy, even he is saying he may leave GB. He also said he hasnt made any money off the shares he owns in GB meaning GB isnt turning a profit. That speaks volumes since he's been a partner since nearly the beginning (one year after it's creation). Cus as of right now, GB has no CEO. Richard ran the company, Oscar didn't do anything. As of now, GB has no fights scheduled past this summer. So if youre a fighter with no contract, what faith would u have in GB?

Here are a few quotes from Rick Glaser, who obviously has inside sources since he was the very first person to report on the internal Golden Boy problems (he's also very accurate with his PPV number releases):

Rick Glaser R @rick Glaser1
Bernard Hopkins unhappy with#GBP as his stock hasn't generated any dividends, which means GBP has never made a profit!

Rick Glaser R @rick Glaser1
Sounds like next person out at #GBP will be Bruce Binkow, COO/CMO, a stone cold Schaefer loyalist.

Rick Glaser R @rick Glaser1
Many asking me "where did #Schaefer go wrong" Richard went wrong cause he gave the fort away to Haymon, & he thought he was infallible.
