This would only increase the probability.

Unless he has some crazy Devin Hester return abilities it isn't worth putting your best guy out there if he's just an average kick returner.
if dude was better then devin hester it wouldnt be worth it, dude covers more field then any one player in the whole nfl.

He was obviously just feelin himself, asked for some returns and the seahawks with their whole competition thing decided to let him do it for shits and giggles. After that they prolly just rolled with it with the media just to keep the joke going

At least I hope so lol... I strongly agree earl thomas is far far too valuable on defense to be doing returns

Earl Thomas wants new job: Seahawks’ punt returner

All-Pro Safety Earl Thomas hopes to replace Golden Tate in returning punts, but he’ll have to beat out Percy Harvin and Richard Sherman.

RENTON – In the past year, Earl Thomas has become a Super Bowl champion and the highest-paid safety in the NFL, the latter thanks to a new four-year, $40 million extension signed in April.

But the title by his name he really wants now, he says, is that of Seattle’s punt returner, one that coach Pete Carroll said Tuesday he just might get.

Carroll made that somewhat surprising proclamation after Seattle’s first Organized Team Activity (OTA) workout Tuesday at the team’s practice facility, saying that Thomas would be the team’s punt returner “if we had to start today.’’

Carroll also then mentioned as punt-return candidates cornerback Richard Sherman and receiver Percy Harvin, who rank along with Thomas as among the highest-paid and most-valuable players on the team. Receiver Bryan Walters, who figures to vie for one of the final spots on the roster, also was mentioned.

All are competing to replace Golden Tate, who handled all but one punt return last year but signed in March as a free agent with Detroit.

Thomas and Harvin met with reporters and made it clear they want the job.

“I’m very excited,’’ said Thomas, who had four punt returns for 58 yards in two years at Texas but has not returned a punt in the NFL. “I’ve been waiting on this opportunity. This is what I do. I’m an athlete. I’ve been trying to tell coach Carroll to put me back there for the longest (time). I always try to go back there during walk-throughs, just to try to sneak a punt return, show them who I am and I want to score a touchdown. So this is a perfect opportunity for me ... I’m an offensive guy at heart. That’s why I don’t try to go out of bounds when I catch interceptions.”

And Thomas quickly shrugged off the idea that some might wonder if he is too valuable to risk returning punts.

“I don’t care what they think, you know?” he said. “This is my future. I can help this team.’’

Carroll likewise brushed aside the risk factor.

Harvin may seem the more obvious candidate, becoming known as one of the top kickoff returners in the NFL since entering the league in 2009. But he has never returned a punt as a pro.

Harvin, though, said he’s happy to do kickoffs and punts, especially now that he is recovered from the hip injury that sidelined him most of last season. In one of the most positive signs of the day, he said he hasn’t felt as good as he does now since college.

Harvin said Carroll approached him a few weeks ago with the idea of returning punts.

“Hopefully, if I get comfortable enough with it by preseason I can get some action back there,” Harvin said.

Sherman was the only Seahawk besides Tate who returned a punt in 2013, fumbling an attempt that turned into a 6-yard loss late in the win at Arizona when Tate was out with a sore foot. Sherman was listed as the backup punt returner for most of the season.

“Richard Sherman would tell you he’s the best one, and he catches the ball really well,’’ Carroll said. “He and Earl would take it right now.’’

Thomas also wants to take it in September.

“I want to show everybody who I am and I want to be able to impact the game as much as possible,’’ he said. “This is a great opportunity. I just need to capitalize on it.”

I understand that, but i think the idea is he is NOT an average kick returner...and thats why they are entertaining it.

Doug Baldwin staying with Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks locked up another core player Thursday by agreeing to a two-year contract extension with wide receiver Doug Baldwin, a league source said.

Financial terms were not immediately available, but Baldwin was scheduled to make $2.2 million this season as a restricted free agent. The new deal allows Baldwin to hit unrestricted free agency after the 2016 season, when he'll be entering his seventh year in the league.

The contract is in line with the Seahawks' philosophy of signing productive young players to relatively short-term deals. Their thinking: A shorter contract rewards a player financially while also serving as incentive for a shot at another lucrative extension when the deal expires.

In April, safety Earl Thomas, coming off his third Pro Bowl appearance in his first four seasons, signed a four-year, $40 million extension that included $27.75 million in guarantees. Nearly two weeks later, cornerback Richard Sherman, who had a league-high 20 interceptions in his first three seasons, signed a four-year, $56 million extension that reportedly includes $40 million in guarantees.

Baldwin has consistently produced since joining the Seahawks as an undrafted rookie in 2011. He led the team's receivers in catches (51), yards (788) and touchdowns (four) that season, and last season ranked second in receptions (50) and yards (778) and tied for first with five touchdowns.

He was particularly effective in the playoffs, his 24-yard catch on third-and-3 early in the fourth quarter helping stall a Saints rally and set up the decisive touchdown, and his 51-yard reception in the NFC Championship Game win over the 49ers setting up the Seahawks' first points after they trailed 10-0. He finished that game with six catches for 106 yards.

Neither Baldwin nor the Seahawks were immediately available for comment.

Calvin Johnson Asks Golden Tate To Deliver Super Bowl Message To Obama

Tate certainly has high expectations for the group. Tate recently visited Washington D.C. with his former team, the Seattle Seahawks, to meet President Barack Obama, and Johnson joked that he wanted Tate to deliver a message.

“I told him to tell Obama I said, ‘What’s up?’” Johnson said without missing a beat as he laughed. “[Tate] responded, he said, ‘We can tell him all ourselves next year.”

Baldwin is not the best WR in the league, or the fastest, or the flasheist, but goddamn im glad he is a Hawk. Everything about him reflects what i feel all NFL players should strive for: consistency, hard worth ethic, and humbleness. If anyone has him as a friend on any social networks, you know what im talking about. On top of that, he catches the damn ball and is productive when he does. What more can you ask of a guy who didn't even get drafted???

I hope he stays in Seattle forever.

What do the bears have to do with Sherman destroying Raepernick?
You're all on the Hawks nuts now huh? .... You get no respect from me as a football fan... You got hundreds of posts in this thread but haven't posted anything about the bears off season...

Miss me with the old "well I was a bears fan but now I live in Seattle so I like them"... I know a gang of people in northern Cali who are fans of teams outside the area and never switched up...

What's my name? 206. Where is 206? Seattle. I'm Seattle's step child. Born in Chicago and lived about 25 years in Seattle. I know more about the city of Seattle then I ever will of Chicago.

You get no respect from me as a football fan...
On my god my life is over! I don't get respect from a lowlife nobody? damn!

You got hundreds of posts in this thread but haven't posted anything about the bears off season...
No one ever posts in the Bears thread. Plus there's nothing to say. I have no idea what they are doing (I don't know what their identity is with the new regime. It's strange seeing them focus on offense and not defense.).

Miss me with the old "well I was a bears fan but now I live in Seattle so I like them"... I know a gang of people in northern Cali who are fans of teams outside the area and never switched up...
I never switched. I've always maintained I'm fan of both teams. I give a fuck what "a gang of people in northern Cali" think. It's the only thing you can ever say to me. Can't say anything about Sherman or the Seahawks beating your faggot team? Oh then let's bring up the bears! That will show him! Same old story with you. At the end of the day, 49ers still lost. Sorry, I know it hurts deep.
