how do the electricity bills work over there? here you tell them your details (house size, number of residents, etc) and they give you an estimate and you pay that monthly and at the end of the quarter they check your meter and settle the balance.

They give me a rate per kwh. Its cheaper in the summer, higher in the winter. Then there's all these adjustments and taxes and credits.

yeah they charge by the kwh here as well but they only check the meter quarterly so the other 2 months are just estimates.
